This thing just flew to me and started licking plus shouldn't his tongue have watertight as it's blue and he's a water type

      • Anonymous

        Tips for Coral:
        - His tongue attack is fast, but weak. Try dodging opposite to the sweep. If he sweeps his tongue left, role to the right.
-His mouth beam attack has two versions, normal and splitting. If he roars while beaming, it is normal. If he is quiet, it will split
-His tail sweep is pretty weak, but I would advise to dodge away.
-He will always look behind and raise his tail before shooting a beam backwards when grounded, dodge to either wing depending on which one is closer.
-He will prepare to jump before using his aerial tail beam, sweeping forward. Dodge away from the center and where he is facing. He will stay in the air and start spinning with the beam, with the beam progressively going outwards. Time your dodge to be directly under him and clutch claw. You should be out of the way from the rest of the attack, you should either tenderize, or launch if he is not enraged and if a wall or tall slope is close by.
-Cutting the tail will completely disable the tail beams for the rest of the fight.
-When Coral is licking something, it's usually slinger ammo, use this to grab the ammo to launch him, or tenderize if engaged.
-Insect glaive users should not go airborne if Coral is doing the aerial tail beam.
-When the tail beam is shooting from the side, go towards Coral. This is a pretty lengthy move, so you'll be able to deal a good amount of damage if you aren't hit
-If Coral is drinking from the giant mushroom, try to deal KO damage to sink Coral into the mushroom for an attack, sharpening, or heal opportunity.
-Do not worry much about water blight unless your weapon relies heavily on stamina

If you can Coral in under 12 minutes in the highlands, or under 9 in arena, I would say you are prepared enough to begin post Shara Iceborne, and some tempered monsters. Though, this will not be true to everyone.

Just got into the game and I am glad to know my favorite monster has a different and more beatiful version!

          • Anonymous

I was going to say the tail was way too hard to cut for how annoying its attacks are but apparently it can only be cut when it's under 35% HP and that's even worse

            • Anonymous

Didn't have any trouble during the first encounter in the coral highlands, but it completely wiped the floor (because water, haha-) with me in the arena. Multiple times the Pukei-Pukei hit me with its water bubbles and almost always followed up with a water beam attack that hit me just as I tried to get up. Because I didn't know its moves that well yet, I never saw it telegraph the water beam attacks and they come out instantly.

I partially blame the flat empty space in the arena which is perfect for the water beams, but still - did not expect to struggle that much against a Pukei-Pukei.

Funniest monster in the entire series XD. The first cutscene have me in doubts if its tail was actually his pp XD

                • Anonymous

this was harder than white fatalis for me, the damn water spraying always seems to hit me, god forbid theres a fire, ice, thunder or dragon subspiecies in rise

                  • Anonymous

honestly one of the more interesting subspecies by far. Viper is uhh kinda boring and annoying, Fulgur is super cool just wish the turf war with viper was better, Nightshade has an interesting design and attacks but annoying to fight (unless you have sleep resistence), Shrieking Legiana is a pain to fight but cool attacks. Am I forgetting any more subspecies? Tell me in the comments

                    • Anonymous

To be completely honest, I didn't even know people had difficulties with this fight until now.

Annoyances, I can completely understand. But actually struggling with the fight? HOW?

                      • Anonymous

To the people flexing their tiny d**k energy: the fight is not hard, no ****, it’s a ****ing pukei not an elder dragon, the fight is just really annoying because of the aerial water-meat-spin attack, etc.

                        • Anonymous

God bless this late balance to the game. Finally water defense has actual use. Namielle perfects it, a second decent water beast. Before iceborne it was pukei spit, girros spit, barroth mud splash....all incredibly weak and not worth getting water defense for.

                          • Anonymous

he's so derpy and fun to fight for the first time. I mean the double beam thing is so unique (Namielle included) and really even more stunning than normal Pukei-Pukei

                            • or those trying to cut of the tail, this is how it works.
The tail has 1540 health and in only cutable after getting pukei under 35% health.

If you deal the 1540 damage and pukei is above 35% health, the tail will absorb the 1 damage for the time being, after pukei hits 34% (6404) hp or less you can sever the tail with one hit if you have previously done the 1540 damage.

From my experience, using flash pods on him prevents him from using the tail streams. Focus on doing that and traps to sever that tail pronto, crippled for the rest of the fight

Coral Pukei is easy, why is everyone complaining about him? Just get MR armor and weapons and learn his moves

For anyone like me who had truly frustrating expirience. DONT FIGHT THIS AND NEXT MONSTERS IN HIGH RANK ARMOUR. DLC one give 2 times more defense...

All people downvoting comments about how bs this monster to fight... I hope you will be well after yours brain cancer treatment. If half of playerbase have problems with exact one single monster... of course it's problem of community and bad design...

JFC, took me 30 minutes to hunt this thing. Zero carts, nonstop aggression, dodging every attack, minimal downtime, constantly hitting the monster WITH a G-Rank weapon. Why the f@ck do monsters have so much health in Iceborne? It was a fun hunt for the first 10 minutes. The next 20 minutes were an absolutely braindead chore to play. Capcom is a terrible company. If the rest of MR is going to be like this, then I'm dropping the game. It isn't even hard, just tedious, boring, and a waste of time.

Heres my method of cutting off tail. 1st hit the head till he flinch and then grapple him and make him run into a wall. When he gets downed proceed to hit the tail. Repeat.

                                                • Anonymous

The tail appears to only able to be cut after a certain percentage of health. To find this out I did two runs, one I focused almost exclusively on the tail and a second where I ignored it until he was starting to limp. In the first run the tail didn't fall off for almost the entire hunt and after it did he started limping. The second run as soon as I noticed him limping I started attacking the tail and it fell off much faster than the first run

                                                  • Anonymous

If you quest for this thing and Banbaro is in the zone with you. Be sure to bring dung pods. There's no turf war, but because this stupid thing 360's his watery diarrhea all over the place, if Banbaro shows up, he'll get hit, Pukei will peace out because he's a little *****, and leave you with Moose-face's aggro.

                                                    • Anonymous

Any tricks to severing the tail? I just dedicated an entire 13 minute hunt to it and even with some Partbreaker and a R10 Ice GS it took absolutely forever to cut.

                                                      • Anonymous

I didn't think this was too bad of a hunt. Coral Pukei Pukei definitely spams the water bombs, but overall it was a decent fight. Don't see what the negativity is all about. Variety is the spice of life.

                                                        • Anonymous

Watch out for its water attacks, they really suck. If it's going to shoot from its mouth, stay clear, because the water ends up splitting and sweeping the front of it. The water jet from its tail is no joke, either.
