Dual Blades (双剣 sou ken, "paired swords") is a weapon category in Monster Hunter World (MHW). Like all Weapons, it features a unique moveset and an upgrade path that branches out depending on the materials used. Please see Weapon Mechanics for details on the basics of your hunter tools.

Use dual blades to unleash a whirlwind of combo attacks on your enemy. Though they're lightweight and relatively simple to use, they cannot be used to guard.

Dual Blades Weapon Tree

For full details including the Iceborne Expansion weapons please see Dual Blades Weapon Tree

Also see Iceborne Dual Blades for a list of weapons added with the expansion.

Dual Blades Traits & Abilities

  • Fast and agile, the dual blades are perfect to chain long and high-damage combos
  • Demon Mode and Archdemon mode allow hunters to get even more attack speed and damage
  • Their rapid nature make Dual Blades ideal for applying status effects.

Dual Blades Guide

The Dual Blades are a whirlwind of blades that never stops. They forgo all defense for a relentless offense with the highest attack speed in the game. Dual Blades chain together attacks rapidly, and rack up dozens of hits in the span of seconds. In their normal form, their attacks are basic slashes that can be adjusted on the fly and they have normal dodges. Hunters can also go into Demon Mode, which increases their attack damage, changes their attack moves, grants resistance to knockback and changes their dodge to a quick dash. While in Demon Mode, hunters chain together even longer attacks, and build up a meter which lets them enter Archdemon Mode. Archdemon mode further increases attack damage, and changes the moveset even when not in Demon Mode. The meter for Archdemon Mode will decay over time, requiring Demon Mode to keep it full. Demon Mode drains stamina while it's active. Mastering the flow of combat, and the flow from basic mode to Demon Mode and then to Archdemon mode, will turn hunters into an unstoppable flurry of blades.

Demon Dodge

Dual Blades can chain evades repeatedly while in Demon Mode, gaining an almost uninterrupted amount of invulnerability.

Archdemon Mode

You can enter Archdemon Mode by landing attacks while in Demon Mode and maxing out the Demon Gauge. There are some special attacks only available in this mode.

Heavenly Blade Dance

Heavenly Blade Dance is an impressive flurry of slashes that carves a path down the full length of a monster.

Dual Blades Advantages

  • One of the highest potential DPS out of all melee weapons when using Elemental Damage
  • "Demon" and "Archdemon" modes can chain combos causing extremely high damage without fear of bouncing off the target
  • Dash dodging is fast and has superior i-frame compared with regular rolling

Dual Blades Disadvantages

  • Shortest range and reach of all weapons
  • Demon Dance leaves the hunter open to attacks for a very long time
  • Fast sharpness deterioration
  • Very stamina hungry during Demon Mode

Bro idk how people use dual blades I use all the big weapons like gs cb hammer lance and gl cause they feel like a calming river but db is way too confusing for me.

      • Anonymous

I used to be a charge blade main, and still use it. But I've noticed a connection to the dual blades recently. I've found that the reason for this the fact that it gives you almost no limitations. I play anthem and I enjoy interceptor and this feels exactly like that: There is no worry about cool down, high maneuverability, adaptable to most situations. If you like that style then don't sleep on this, make a loadout surrounding this weapon. You will not regret it.

Im playing Monster Hunter for the first time, im trying out different weapons and i want different classes for different elements. What are some good Non-Fire Non-Electric Dual Blades? Also what other weapons and elements would i need?

dual blades with "chainsaw" skin only makes a chainsaw sound when you unsheathe it but it sounds close to a soft wet fart. Unlike the PSP variety, it makes awesome chainsaw noises on every attack.

Can someone explain to me if the Attack/Elemental Damage shown on the weapon info apply to each individual blade? For example, if the Attack is 300 and the Elemental is 500, is that per hit?

I don't like the demon theme at all. I would get rid of it if I were you. Too many Christian players to miss out on.

Here's a thought: STOP making the "Controls" section show just the PS4 buttons. This game is available on Xbox, too, and Xbox controllers use entirely different button shapes. Do you have any clue how USELESS PS4 control diagrams are for Xbox players?!

One of the few weapons you can get animation locked into. Nothing is more embarrassing than doing your combo only to have yourself swinging at the air because of a long chain you missed.

                        • Anonymous

While in demon mode, if you hold left or right on the stick during the triangle-triangle-triangle combo, the third trianlge turns into the "fade slash" which allows you to infinite.

                          • Anonymous

It should be noted that you can infinitely stay in demon mode even with no stamina by simply spamming your Circle, Triangle, Triangle, Circle, etc combo. As long as you do not fail to keep the combo going, or get staggered from a hit, you can stay in demon mode with zero stamina.

                            • Anonymous

While in demon mode, you can also O dash onto pillars and walls to run up them and then whirlwind dash off of them.
