The Fishing Rod is a Fixed Pouch Item in Monster Hunter World (MHW). It allows Hunters to catch fish for various materials.

The Fishing Rod is given to Hunters by the Research Commission as part of their preparations for exploring the New World.
While in the field, the Fishing Rod can be brought out from the Item Bar or put away with /

Once the Fishing Rod is out, a line can be cast into nearby fishing sites with /
/
. The aiming reticle is replaced with a pillar indicator showing where the cast will land. Some fish will bite without the use of bait, but many will only be attracted to Baitbugs and other Bait Items, which can be brought along in the Item Pouch. Bait can be selected by expanding the Item Bar with
/
/Q.
When a fish fully bites, the bobber will submerge and the catch can be brought in with /
/
. If a Gastronome Tuna, Petricanth, Platinumfish, Great Sushifish, Great Whetfish, Great Pink Parexus, or King Marlin bites, a short series of button prompts will follow before it is reeled in.
Endemic Life is worth Resource Points when captured, and the captured creatures are kept as Pets that can be set around the Hunter's house. Fish will drop Items such as Sushifish Scales. In addition, the Piscine Researcher will offer Hunters multiple Critical Bounties that require catching rare fish from all the Locations of the New World.
