Flashfly Cage is a Palico Gadget in Monster Hunter World (MHW).
A Palico gadget that stuns monsters with a flash of light. They can use this more often as their proficiency increases.
How to get Flashfly Cage
This Palico Gadget is obtained by completing the Grimalkyne sidequest in the Ancient Forest.
You can begin the sidequest by traveling to the top of the Ancient Forest with your Palico in tow. In the maze of vines and pathways behind the Rathalos nest, you will encounter a lone Grimalkyne, who will run away from you. Follow him all the way to his encampment, and he will reward you with the Flashfly Cage.
Use and leveling
Once aquired your palico will set down a flash cage to help stun monster.
At gadget level 5 palico will also start using a make shift electric trap. Duration of trap is not as long as shock trap used by hunters.
Once palico has reached gadget level 10 you will be able to command palio to use either trap on command with a regular cool down time.
Iceborne Changes
In Iceborne, the flash fly cage gets a new equipment piece called the boombug cage and can be used a proficiency level 11 and up. The boombug cage acts like the thunderbug cage where your palico sets down a trap for a monster to activate. When a large monster walks over the boombug cage, the trap will explode dealing around 100 damage to the monster and staggering it. It can’t activate on monsters flying in the air over the trap.
Once the Palico reaches level 15 proficiency, you can now use the trap on command. It will still have a cool down like the rest of the Palico gadgets.

A extremely useful gadget against silver rathalos and golden rathian, the flash and shock creates opening for slow weapons like gunlance and greatsword. The boombug cage addition exist to help this gadget to be more viable against elder dragons, and it also topples monster fairly frequently creating even more openings. Overall powerful gadget for creating openings, especially helpful for slow weapons and fast non-elder monsters(ebony odogaron).

With the flash nerf this gadget is worse than having the cat stay at home.
There really should be easier ways to level up this gear... For that matter the Palico equipment should be more balanced in general. Given the massive nerfing Flash effects were given in Iceborne, and the uselessness of traps against Elder Dragons which form the majority of end-game content, this piece of equipment is basically useless... yet it takes the longest to level because it gains experience stupidly slowly... so it will have to be used for longer than most of the other pieces of cat gear. I barely ever see the new Iceborne feature being used, though that may be because I've only got this thing up two levels over the past 10 hunts or so (level 12 total now).

Leveling this gadget to level 5 will allow your Palico to sometimes place a shock trap instead of a flash trap.
Don't underestimate this gadget, it gives you a lot of opening during a fight thanks to all the cc that this gadget have. The flash cage is excellent to blind a monster and give you some time to heal or maybe you want to use to blind more than 1 monster around you so you don't have any annoying monster hitting you like Bazelgeuse or things like that. The electric trap although it lose effectiveness over time during the fight, it could still be useful to do some hits while the monster is recovering from the trap. The explosive trap can sometimes stun monsters which it's fantastic, many times a monster got down thanks to the boombug. Useless against elder dragons yeah, but highly useful to progress throughout the game even at master rank.
