Frostfang Barioth Combat Info

  • Kinsect Extract:
    • Red: Head
    • Orange: Body/Hindlegs
    • White: Forelegs/Wings
    • Green: Tail
  • Enraged mode: Eyes switch from blue to orange. Attacks more ferociously and more often
  • You can obtain a Shiny Drops by attacking the Head and Wings, plus with a wallbang
  • The general Strategy should be to break it's wings as early as possible and go from there.
  • Breaking its wings will make it stagger after many attacks, creating openings for damage
  • Breaking both of its fangs will weaken its frosty breath. If flinched, it may shoot out a breath of ice upon recovering.  Thaw out any icy patches on the ground with Torch Pods.
  • Generally, try to stay close to its wings or head to avoid the freezing Breath. This does not apply when Frostfang Barioth roars once and jumps backwards.
  • The head / teeth can be broken twice. Doing so will decrease the time you are stuck in the Frostbreath when you step in it.
  • Wearing an Iceproof Mantle will also decrease the time you are stuck in place.
  • Generally avoid using the Rocksteady mantle, as you will still get stuck in place, but never get any I-frames.
  • Enraged mode:
    • The Super Slam now happens twice. If you get hit by the first one, stay down.
    • Frostfang Barioth will also combo many of his Frostbreath attacks in pairs together. Always be on your guard.

Frostfang Barioth Combat Tips

  • Frostfang Barioth deals ice damage, so equip armor with high Ice Resistance to mitigate its attacks.
  • Choose weapons that exploit its weakness to fire. This will significantly increase your damage output. Additionally, bring weapons with high sharpness and consider using Iceproof Mantle for added defense.
  • Skills like Ice Resistance, Health Boost, and Evade Window can be beneficial. Decorations that boost your chosen weapon's damage are also valuable.
  • Aim for weak points like the head, wings, and tail for maximum damage. Use weapons with cutting damage to sever the tail.
  • Use environmental traps like falling boulders and ledges to your advantage. They can provide openings for powerful attacks.
  • Frostfang Barioth is agile and can cover ground quickly. Be ready to dodge its lunges and ice attacks. Evade Window can be a valuable skill for dodging effectively.
  • Attempt to mount the monster to create openings for attacks. Additionally, apply status effects like paralysis or sleep to gain an upper hand.
  • Carry ample healing items such as Mega Potions, Max Potions, and Nulberries. Be prepared for a prolonged battle.

Absolutely love him just like regular barioth. His frost breath is a massive pain in the arse tho, especially on the quest "The last white knight" where you have to fight a tempered one. Armor looks sick and is pretty good for crit builds. Really fun fight, again, the frost breath does make it kinda cringe at times. I only brought up the frost breath because there's literally no counter for it besides having friends with torch pods. So half of the time if you get caught in it, youre pretty much screwed. Overall a solid 8/10 I'm my book.

He's an awesome monster with an awesome armor and awesome weapons. Only thing that might be irritating is him creating ice puddles that make you stick to the ground.

This guy is so easy with trapper felyne and hammer, i can't believe anyone is struggling with it, killed the tempered version in 7 minutes

          • if you're struggling to get enough hits on him, just spam the clutch claw on his tail. the only move that can knock you off is the side-bash thing, but he seems to use it a lot less than normal bari. wait for him to tire himself out, then wall-splat him and go for the head (or claws if you're using a blunt weapon) as soon as you get the chance.

            • Anonymous

killed him in the arena quest with less than 5 minutes left 'cause i said "screw it, i'm putting down some bombs" and he decided to put himself out of his misery.

              • Anonymous

Feels easier than regular Barioth. I remember first time i fight against Barioth it gave me mental breakdown lol, the thing is hella fast.

                • Anonymous

Boggles my mind how anyone can prefer this abomination over regular Barioth, much less enjoy fighting it. Legit one of the worst enemies in the game, up there with Kushala and Kirin. Not difficult, just pure cancer.

                  • Anonymous

Can't believe some people actcually think he is hard as or even harder than furious rajang and raging branch

                    • regular barioth forced me to switch from charge blade to sword and shield in the main iceborne story, i hated it... but this has some cool incentives if i fight this one... might just bite the bullet at farm him for his layered armor

                      • Anonymous

Killed my first frostfang after a long and careful battle because i went totally unprepared for it (No nullberries, not even fully stocked healing potions, no demon and armour buffs) since it was the arena and no tent

During the chaos, i missed the chance to capture it and when i carved it, 4 lashes

I then went over to the severed tail which i couldn't pick up since that mofo immediately goes after me during each previous attempt, a 5th lash

What the **** is that 5 tailed mutant?!? Does it have tails instead of legs and wings

I really dislike how Frostfang Barioth and Furious Rajang aren't part of the game like the other monsters are. You don't get investigations for them, nor do they show up in the Guiding Lands.

So I just did the old dog new tricks quest and no equipment unlocked. I’m at namielle right now so is it only obtained after shara?

So I just did the old dog new tricks event quest but nothing unlocked. I’m on collecting elder tracks (right before namielle) am I doing something wrong? Or is it locked behind another quest?

Hey guys this one stumps me. Already forged aletraon dual blades. Trying to forge upgraded version ( madness dual blades) have all components needed but says cannot be forged?? Any idea why?

Is there anything you can do to prevent that sticky ice **** he does before he flattens you (besides "lol don't get hit")

                                  • Anonymous

Soloed his tempered version two times using Safi's Hellspear without carting because I wanted to see if his glaive was good (it is). Cut off his tail both times in the nest area, too, and he was not happy about that. Also managed to bring him down to dying the first time before he left the nest area; scared the hell out of me the first time while I was carving his tail and he came back.

Why does the page say he is resistant to dragon when the field guide (which is also on this page) says that frostfang has a 1 star weakness to dragon?

I hunted m'y first frostfang today and that was a pretty cool fight, on my first try, with my full velkhana armor he cleaned the floor with my face, but, on the second try, i understand what i did wrong, i was way to aggressive when he was enraged. Since I've forced myself to go on the defence, i'm farming it with so much fun. The surprisingly low amount of differents materials to gather and the pretty good armor and weapons stats, i dont regret going for this monster armor.

When’s that tempered event quest coming back? I want to make the layered armor but I don’t have enough tickets.

this dude killed me then threw me in his **** then next hunt i picked up his own **** thats used for your slinger aparently then i threw it in his face and im all how you like dat *****

if you guys don't know "The Last White Knight" isn't the only quest you can fight Frostfang. There is also another quest called "old dog new tricks" which you can actually fight a normal non temperd Frostfang Barioth in an arena. He is a 5 star master rank challenge and he is really easy. I defeated him under 10 minutes! Well... still use fire elemental weapons for a fast and enjoyable experience. So if your still trying to get the Frostfang equipment or just want to have revenge now is your chance.

I'm glad we're get to have easy, relaxing fights amid all the raging Rangajangs and furious Brachys. For some reason Frostfang got hyped to me as a major challenge, but my first encounter went by shockingly fast, as I literally spent more time searching for it than fighting it. After spending so much time grinding Alatreon (which also eventually became shockingly easy) and breaking my dodge button fighting Rajang, this is a breath of fresh, lung-freezing air.

Guys just an update regarding the Frostfang Barioth event if you didn't know the event quest will not be available at Wednesday. I don't know what time is it in your countries but in Indonesia the event quest will finish tomorrow Wednesday at 11:59 midnight so if you haven't fought him or haven't got his equipment I suggest you fight him today.

                                                  • Anonymous

Would still recommend rock steady, you can take his blows w that much armor, just learn to avoid the ice and it's going to be very worth it. You can clutch claw spam if he keeps running or flying, and you can beat him continuously, land some heavy strong moves. It's a good opening, you can charge him and flinch him to a wall when you first meet him,he can't shake you off or stun w a Roar.

                                                    • Anonymous

he is more fun then hard because if you already got used to normal barioth then your gonna have little problem with frostfang. But I gotta say WHAT AN EPIC FIGHT he looks very cool and should really be classed as a deviant than a variant in my opinion like what hes been through is like scarred yian garuga but both are variants said the devs. His armor is sooo worth it for gs or hammer because slugger level 5 and punishing draw! Overall 9.5/10

                                                      • Anonymous

                                                        Hello. :)
Break a fang to get a frostfang. Captures also reward frostfangs. You can carve a tail from its body, not just a severed tail. Even Quest can reward Sealed Feystones.

                                                        • Anonymous

Soloing this guy is so fun. You can keep pushing him into walls due to narrow paths and theres even a banbaro and an ebony Odogaron to turf him with. And with that you barely even need to hit him :D

                                                          • Anonymous

this fight was horribly disappointing after the previous fights we got, alatreon, furious rajang, raging brachy, stygian zinogre, rajang, safi all of those monsters were epic fights and cool as hell whereas frostfang is basically just tempered barioth with a mildly annoying mechanic to put frost on the ground that makes you take a few seconds to shake off unable to do anything and the weapons which are all high element are worse than the safi ice, kjarr ice etc weapons except they start with 15% affinity which you could easily make a safi weapon with the exact same stats as the frostfang weapons if that wouldnt make them basically awful to use and is there even a need to compare to the kjarr ice weapons?

                                                            • Anonymous

Cool fight, not much of a challenge but still fun. Only annoying thing is that the fight is restricted to two areas and he doesn't roam around but waits until you enter. I really dislike this scripted behaviour. You have the whole of Hoarfrost Reach to fight in but no only his lair and the frozen geyser cavern. If it's like this you can simply put him into the arena not much of a difference.

                                                              • Anonymous

Don't bother about the tail, it's regular barioth one that you get. concentrate on fangs and claws, those are unique materials

                                                                • Anonymous

I get more tickets if I capture him then when I kill him but I don't if that's true for anyone else. You probably get more tickets if you have the Kirin armor but I don't know

                                                                  • Anonymous

                                                                    • Anonymous

In short, this fight feels so much more fun than the normal dash spamming Barioth, his weapons are not the greatest with less affinity but more raw and ice element than the normal ones its not that great considering you need three tickets, but the armor is oh so amazing, I just made a status hunting horn set and the slugger secret should be good for hammer and hunting horn, not to mention the beta braces and greaves having 2 level 4 gem slots and good skills with it.

                                                                      • Anonymous

Just fought him. He’s easier then I expected. But for those who wanted to know, iceproof mantle doesn’t work on that freezing mist. If you’ve fought normal Barioth or even tempered Barioth, I don’t think he’s gonna be an issue. Still really fun.

                                                                        • Anonymous

5 WAYS RYOZO HAS RUINED MY LIFE: NUMBER 1) HE KILLED THE FLASH PODS. Without any provocation or good reason, Mr.Tsujimoto took the most flashy CC around and gutted it with the nerf bat. Monster Hunter has only been about 2 things. Permanently stunlocking the monsters and spam triangle. The flash pods was the perfect embodiment of what it meant to be a hunter. Now it's just a waste of breath. NUMBER 2) I CAN'T STUNLOCK ANYMORE. Similar to the nerf for what it mean to be a hunter, Ryozo has done it again but with CC. The flash pods which was obviously the best designed items in the game just got nerfed. So now it's impossible for me to use flash pods and still win the fight. It was the glue that held the 4 man squad together. If you think I am gonna use the clutch claw at the right moment and pay attention to the enrage mechanic instead of just unga bunga, you obviously don't understand Monster Hunter. NUMBER 3) HE IS NERFING RAW DAMAGE. Kulve Taroth weapon with build in Crit Element? What's next? Elemental damage now instant kill Alatreon? Raw damage now deal 2% less damage than an optimized specific element build against specific monster. Anyone that isn't a complete scrub know that Raw damage is the most important, interesting and exciting part of any monster hunter game. By making stuff that better than Raw, that make it harder for me, to build only 1 blast set and CC which was already get nerfed anyway. If anything they should just remove element damage all together and let only the highest Raw weapon survive. NUMBER 4) WHAT IS ALL THIS COUNTER PLAY CRAP. CC mean I stunlock the monster and the monster has to wait around until i decide not to use CC or screw up which of course i never do. What's the point of making the monster react to player movement and position? This isn't some stupid MOBA where everyone can have a good time. Monster Hunter is a REAL game that proves you are better than everybody else. That way you can flame people on forums for having stupid ideas and opinions. NUMBER 5) ADDING EASY MODE FOR NOOBS AND COWARDS. Sos, scaled monster HP. What's next? A reward system that encourage people to help out new players and a guide to help players to develop and effective learning process and self improvement? Monster Hunter isn't about making it easy for new players to get into the game. It's about crushing noobs into the ground so only the strong survive. Human didn't evolve because the World make it easier for us to not die. Human evolved because we are better than all the other stupid animals. CONCLUSION: Monster Hunter is the best game ever made. That means it's impossible to make it any better by changing stuff. What we need is more the same stuff we're used to not stupid stuff from other game. So stop coming with new ideas that you think you are gonna make the game better and just bring back Heat gauge for Gunlance already.
