MHW Kulu-Ya-Ku Attacks and Movesets
Kulu-Ya-Ku can perform the following attacks:
- Rock Pick-Up: Kulu-Ya-Ku picks up a rock from the environment, which it can use for both offense and defense. The size of the rock determines the impact of its attacks.
- Rock Throw: Kulu-Ya-Ku hurls the picked-up rock at hunters from a distance. The trajectory and speed of the throw can catch hunters off guard, requiring evasive maneuvers.
- Charging Peck: Kulu-Ya-Ku charges at hunters, pecking rapidly with its beak. While individually not overly powerful, the rapid pecks can accumulate damage if hunters are caught in the assault.
- Feathered Frenzy: Kulu-Ya-Ku can enter a state where it becomes more aggressive, attacking more frequently. During this frenzy, its movements become swifter, and hunters need to be cautious of its increased aggression.
- Peck Combo: Kulu-Ya-Ku performs a series of pecks with its beak in quick succession. Hunters need to time their dodges or blocks effectively to avoid taking damage from this relentless combo.
- Rolling Attack: Kulu-Ya-Ku rolls on its side, attempting to collide with hunters. Evading or blocking is crucial to avoid being knocked down or taking damage from this rolling maneuver.
- Nest Retreat: When sufficiently pressured or weakened, Kulu-Ya-Ku may retreat to its nest to recover. Hunters can take advantage of this opportunity to deal additional damage or prepare for the next phase of the encounter.
- Digging Retreat: In certain environments, Kulu-Ya-Ku can burrow underground to escape or reposition itself. Hunters should anticipate its resurfacing and be prepared for potential follow-up attacks.
- Beak Slam: Kulu-Ya-Ku performs a powerful beak slam, creating a shockwave around its beak. Evading or blocking is necessary to avoid taking damage from this area-of-effect attack.
- Rock Defense: Kulu-Ya-Ku may use the picked-up rock as a makeshift shield to block attacks. Hunters need to adjust their strategy, aiming for unshielded parts or using environmental traps to break its defense.

Notes & Trivia
- Easter Event monster 2018 - Egg Lovers United quest.
- Kulu-Ya-Ku is known as the "Scratching Bird"
- At 20, 30, 40 and 50 successful hunts, you will earn the Guild Card titles "Kulu-Ya-Ku", "Burglar", "Dextrous" and "Raptor" respectively
- BIRD UP!
- From Monster Hunter World: The Official Complete Works(lore/art book):
- Kulu-Ya-Ku's main food sources are the eggs of flying and herbivorous wyverns, though it doesn't seem to show a preference towards species. After pilfering a nest, it will return to its own abode and devour the egg. This protective behavior reduces its chances of being spotted by any foes. On average a Kulu-Ya-Ku consumes the highly nutritious yolk of three to four eggs every day.
- Kulu-Ya-Ku avoid repeatedly targeting a single nest. This is why you can easily spot them traversing the Wildspire Waste's swamps and forests, and almost everywhere in between. Outside of eating and sleeping, the Kulu-Ya-Ku spends most of its time surveying nests, staying hydrated by drinking water several times a day, and frequently grooming the decorative feathers on its arms, which also aid in marking territory.
- A Kulu-Ya-Ku may be camouflaged by its scales, but note the feathers growing on its head and forelimbs. These large and vividly colored feathers are a key ingredient in helping a Kulu-Ya-Ku's attack females. They'are also useful in marking territory, as it sloughs the, off throughout the regions it frequents. There are also circles of thought that contend these decorative feathers are the remains of ancient wings that the Kulu-Ya-Ku lost through evolution.
- Kulu-Ya-Ku is a cautious monster and is not known to go out of its way to attack others. However, if it feels that it is in danger, Kulu-Ya-Ku will attempt to dig up a boulder for use in battle. The boulder serves not only as a melee or projectile weapon, it also shields the Kulu-Ya-Ku's sensitive head and beak from enemy attacks. Once holding a boulder, the normally reticent Kulu-Ya-Ku may become emboldened and has been known to attack monsters stronger than itself, such as Diablos.
- The sensory organs in its beak can detect minute changes in whatever its beak touches. This is how it easily roots out buried eggs or boulders.
- During mating season, females will lay two eggs per pairing. The male and female each take one egg to parent. This practice reduces the chances of thiers eggs being targeted by natural enemies or competing Kulu-Ya-Ku. What's more, to prevent a Kulu-Ya-Ku from mistakenly preying on its own egg, Kulu-Ya-Ku eggs boast and exceptionally unique coloring compared to other eggs. While brooding their eggs, some Kulu-Ya-Ku may simply fast until their egg hatches. However, albeit rarely, some Kulu-Ya-Ku have been known to succumb to their hunger during fasting and consume the contents of their own egg.
- Kulu-Ya-Ku's main habitat is the Wildspire Waste, which allows them to frequently prey on Aptonoth eggs as well as those of herbivorous and flying wyverns. Occasionally Kulu-Ya-Ku may be spotted in the Ancient Forest, those appearances in the Ancient Forest has often coincided with the mating season of Great Jagras, which considering the substantial distance between regions suggests that the Kulu-Ya-Ku are specifically targeting Great Jagras eggs.
- Kulu-Ya-Ku is one of the monsters debuting in Monster Hunter World.

So far this is the only monster that doesn't seem to be affected by the clutch claw attacks on its head, like ever. I tried many times and I am 100% sure that I'm attached to the head, but not only it never turns around when using the claw attack, it also never does the charge after a flinch shot. It just flinches on place like i would have casually shot it with a piercing rod. Am i the only one with this problem? Is it immune to it or is it a bug?

I miss fighting goofy little bird dudes like Kulu Ya Ku instead of fire vomiting dragon-lions like Teostra and Lunastra

The FF XIV cross over version is different. It's immune to flash pods and traps. It can't be knocked down or mounted. The leaping attack will instantly stun you and a second hit will kill you if you're unlucky to be hit twice.

Wouldn't it be funny if you could use these as mounts after you capture them? I know the different areas aren't really big enough for a long distance travel solution, but I like this monster-it's a charming little weirdo.
