Stun - also called K.O., is a Status Effect in Monster Hunter World (MHW). Stun incapacitates the Hunter or Monster for a short time.
Stun Effect
On Monsters
- Triggering the effect requires buildup inflicted by:
- Sources of Blunt Damage or attacks modified by the Impact Mantle dealt to a Monster's head
- Exhaust Ammo fired at a Monster's head
- Environmental traps such as falling boulders
- Flash Pods
- Buildup damage is modified by a Monster's resistance to Stun, but the effect duration is not.
- When Stun is triggered by Weapons or against an airborne Monster, the target will topple over and flail on the ground for 7-8 seconds. When Stun is triggered by non-impacting sources such as Flash Pods or a Tzitzi-Ya-Ku's flash attack, the Monster will remain standing and attack blindly for about 30 seconds.
- Each successive trigger of Stun requires more buildup than the last, but the effect duration remains the same
On the Player and Allies
- Stun is triggered by receiving multiple hits within a short time. Hits from the back will cause Stun more often
- The Hunter is incapacitated upon recovering from whatever hit triggered the effect
- The effect can be recognized by this symbol:
on the HUD
- Cannot be cured by the victim once the effect starts. Receiving a hit from a Monster or Ally will end the effect
- Effect duration can be reduced or prevented entirely with the Stun Resistance Skill

- Kulu-Ya-Ku (attacks with a rock)

there must be better ways of punishing bad play than prohibiting you from having fun for 10 seconds

If stun is considered an ailment, does that mean it is boosted by Safi set bonus?? Not sure how I'd go about testing this and was wondering if anyone knew anything

I can't understand. The duration of the Monster being toppled is not always the same and about that i'm VERY sure. I just don't know if is about the Monster resistance or the number of stun or both

Read that last line again: Receiving a hit from a Monster (or Ally) will end the effect. If your teammate is stunned please knock some sense into them!

You can cure your friends stun by eating a nullberry and having wide range

Does dealing more physical impact damage (on the head) with a weapon, buildup more ko status on a monster, or is not strictly dependant on the amount of damage you deal?

Will KO jewels increase the chance of stun with spread shot 3?

How do you get out of a stun on keyboard? Is there a specific key spam or do I just slam the***** out of my keyboard?

How long does stun affect hunters?? Like, how many seconds? And how long does it last when moving the left analgo stick? Might have to figure this out myself...

This is by far the most bull$&/@ mechanic in this game. Also stun seemingly isn’t exclusive to just some monsters. From what I can tell if you get hit enough by a large monster you’ll get stunned. I have been stunned from pukei-pukeis to legianas. This mechanic essentially allows you to die to random chance. Get stunned on low health and, “OH LOOK I CANT DODGE THE CHARGING MONSTER” it is so annoying to be grinding a monster for materials and then die to random chance because stun decided to proc at the worst possible time. Not to mention it just makes the grinding take longer because you LOSE REWARDS ON DEATH. All I can do is hope that this mechanic is removed in future monster hunter titles. Does stun make sense realistically? Yes. Is it extremely annoying? Triple yes.

If weakness is considered by 3 stars - Great Jagras, Jyuratodus, Rathian, Paolumu, Pink Rathian, and Uragaan are all 3 stared to stun.
If it also involves 2 stars then you can add: Kulu-Ya-Ku, Pukei-Pukei, Tobi-Kadachi, Anjanath, Tzitzi-Ya-Ku, Great Girros, Radobaan, Legiana, Odogaron, Rathalos, Dodogama, Deviljho, Lavasioth, Azure Rathalos, Nergigante, Teostra, Lunastra, Kushala Daora, and Vaal Hazak.
Mainly, MOST of the monsters in this game are fairly vulnerable to Stun...Unsure if this is why they are not listed here but surprised no one has made any mention of this since the game came out and no one edited this page to at least include the 3 star weakness monsters to this.

It'd be nice if severe environmental damage was capable of waking you from stun. I dunno about you guys, but I imagine that if I got knocked into a pool of lava or acid, it wouldn't matter how dazed I am; the whole "I'm on fire" thing would provide a solid jolt to the system. There's nothing worse than getting stunned from a light thwack and then watching your avatar obliviously melt in a sea of flames.

Just wear tzitsi Gauntlets with one steadfast jewel to never get stunned again. Or 3 jewels. I can't see myself hunting without it

Can anybody beak down whatattacks cause a stun or k.o. damage?

MH World is the most infuriating MH game for me. This is how 99% of fights go: Roar, clutch claw, enraged roar, get hit twice (stun), random roar, flash bomb, enraged roar, other monster roars, flash bomb, monster leaves.
