Combat Tactics for Viper Tobi-Kadachi

First off, this version of Tobi-Kadachi can, on top of the regular moveset, shoots spikes from its tail that inflict both Poison and Paralysis. You can either get some Charms with resistance to nullify them, or be really fast with your food eating and bring Antidotes and Herbal Medicines instead. Depending on the resistances you bring to the fight be sure to choose wisely what parts to break first, the bite attack deals Paralysis while the tail is responsible for the Poison. Another thing to have in mind is its Thunder weakness, as always in this game preparation is key, so be sure to bring your most powerful weapon of this element.
Regarding his attacks, one important thing to have in mind is that he roars before any of his movesets, you can negate this with Earplugs or a good enough roll, if you keep the fight in close quarters it will not have many chances to do the Paralysis Spikes attack.

I don't know what everyone's complaining about, once I had full immunity to poison, paralysis, and stun, a strong thunder weapon (but not a great sword), and lvl 3 earplugs, this couldn't have been easier...

      • Anonymous

I think this is one of the best monsters in the game, yeah poison is annoying but you can use this herb medicine or what it is called since its almost instant.

        • Anonymous

the first time I fought this guy I had zero antidotes or antidote herbs in my inventory or item box at camp, and the closest thing I had was herbal medicine and then it started poisoning me

          • Anonymous

from my experience it doesn't spend a lot of time enraged; exploit that with flinch shots
also, lance is effective for just not caring about the trickier tail swipes
...I honestly enjoy this fight as long as I have herbal medicines left

            • Anonymous

had to rat the absolute hell out this guy when i ran out of antidote, im a gs user and basically had to play like the biggest loser since he instacarted me 2 times with his ebola at the start which made me realize "Wow, this really sucks and i dont wanna fail and start over". Basically scratched him to death over the course of 20+ mins. I could see it being much less stressful with poison immunity but without it holy what were they smoking making this dude spam super poison every 2 secs, i havent fought anything in the game that basically requires you to be super familiar with its moves or really stack up a resist to fight it decently (even vaal hazaks miasma isnt a big deal without resistances). Just a personal thing but i figure prep like that is only really warranted if youre really expected to struggle, I dont like it being the standard for a blind encounter like this. BUT the good thing about this fight is that he doesnt have any bs besides his gimmick, he has alot of openings to chip him even with a greatsword, his quill/poison attacks are always cued with the audio sound which does make them easy to avoid if youre focusing on it, and his paralyzing bite seems to only work on you if you get hit twice, plus its slow af.

Should have crafted and upgraded a poison charm before starting with Iceborne lol
I went through unnecessary stress because of this during the first encounter, but I ain't no quitter so I bought my victory with like 15 herbal medicines. I'll definitely catch up on all the other missing charms (the basic ones at least) before continuing the assignments.

                • Anonymous

did it in my first try spent like 40 or 30 antidotes lmao after that i got the poison resistant 3 and now its a piece of cake

I love the little slice of life animations and details they added to all the monsters. Viper Tobi watched me capture a Banbaro from a sector boundary line for like at least 5 mins until the fight was over. It was the cutest thing ever, like he was a giant jagras or shamos. I haven't had any other large monster audiences. Banbaro attacked him in sector 4 then moved to 1 while I was already aggro'ing Banbaro (which angered tobi at me as well). I wonder if it was a glitch or intentional. Everyone probably has seen him contemplating existence at the Sealord pool and carrying his popo meat around.

so annoying it starts shoots poison darts at you the moment it is at half health and continues to do it i used all my antidotes and herbal medicine!! but i beat it

Dying the first time you face it is natural and normal unless you manage to skill/luck it out, though with the right countermeasures it can be hunted with ease.

My usual MO against it is:

                        - High def armor
                        - Fast thunder damage weapon (and buffs to thunder attack; I use the Kadachi dual blades III, but their level up is already available at MR1)
                        - Poison Charm III (IT NEGATES ALL POISON)
                        - Potions and healing wares, you need them a lot to cover your eventual messups

All of these things make the fight absolutely manageable.

i like this monster so ill give you tips
so if you break his tail it will do less damage and remove noxious poison and if you also break his head it will weaken the chances of getting parallelized by him most of his attacks lead forward so if you can try to doge into attacks and when he retreats to the area with the falling boulders put your gillie mantel on he will be standing under a boulder use your slinger to crush him then stand right under the other boulder then fire your slinger right where you are once he comes to check it out then hit the boulder right on top of him then attack ( if your trying to capture him use your tranquilizer bombs first then set up your trap because there are vespoids by where he sleeps so that may mess up your plan ) - Smart Guy

so let me get this straight, you killed me because?
A: you hate me because fulgur anjanhath attacked you
B: i prepare my best gear and you give me noxious poison with your first attack because i hit you with snow
C: you attack me because i got stung by a vespoid and you thought i was sleeping in your bed and you got mad because?
A: i slept in you- viper tobi: * kills me*

when i first fight this guy fulgur anjanhath just comes it bam! turf war then he leaves the local he is awesome

                              • Anonymous

First time fighting him I thought he was easier than Banbaro, since i'm an Insect glaive user I felt the Viper version is pretty easy. Almost all his attacks are the same as regular Tobi but his poisoness blight is more annoying than lighting to me. Besides to make the fight easier and faster just find tigrex or maybe fulgur anjanath or maybe barioth.

                                • Anonymous

In all honesty, I found his fight much easier than regular Tobi-Kadachi for the first time. You basically know his moveset already, Poison Resistance 3 helps you not die and the Paralysis is just a bit annoying. I only had to keep my SOS-Party from constantly parting because they were seemingly unable to use a single potion. But in a bigger Party, the Paralysis just hits you and you lie and wait, no problem there.

                                  • Anonymous

Of course I want to get poisoned with every tailswipe that makes up 80% of your moveset. I don’t mind running out of antidotes. No really... its fine...

I am new to Iceborne, and I was able to prepare for this fight thanks to this wiki and the comments below. I recently got the Beo Beta Armor (which has Earplugs3--it helps with the roars), and I gemmed it for Poison Resist3, Paralysis Resist3, and Stun Resist 3. I still got hit a lot, but the fight was manageable. I hope this helps.

I didn't faint once but it made me use most of my resources, I had hardly any potions, honey, herbs, antidotes, or medicine after the fight.

just strait up scrue this piece of*****, got my poison protection, ok, it paralises me, ok I built a thunder proof armor, he 1 shots me, ok wtf am I supposed to do now? I'm suck on the third iceborn quest

why does the article say that he "can" inflict poison and paralasys? is it just me or does he have a 100% chance to inflict those status efects?

                                            • Anonymous

I hate this bastard as a primary great sword user. I could barely get a hit in without getting hit with poison.

                                              • Anonymous

3 Antidote Dekos aparently dont work, still poisons. Maybe it got downgradet from deadly to toxic Poison? Immunity and Temporal makes him easyer. Bring Herbal Medicin against the Poison, after the Mantles run out.
