MHW Gold Rathian Combat Tips

Gold Rathian, a rare and radiant species, showcases its gleaming gold scales and heightened lethality when wreathed in hellfire. Protected by an exceptionally strong golden shell, it poses a challenge for hunters due to its tendency to deflect attacks. Slightly larger than the average Rathian, it is particularly vulnerable to the Thunder Element. Similar to its counterparts, Gold Rathian inflicts Poison and shoots fireballs, demonstrating superior control over its flame sac.

During its Incandescent state, Gold Rathian intensifies its attacks, emphasizing the use of its tail in varied ranges and trajectories. Hunter beware, as tail strikes become more unpredictable. Focusing relentless attacks on the head can disrupt its enraged state, offering a strategic advantage in the encounter.

In the Fifth Generation, Gold Rathian introduces a new threat with her backflip attacks, which can inflict Noxious Poison. A strategic approach to counter this is to sever her tail, thereby preventing this hazardous status effect.

Holy **** they did it. They made gold Rathian fun. Amazing. Now can they do it with silver Rathalos?.. No? Oh okay..

      • Anonymous

Definitely not as hard as Raging Brachy or Furious Rajang. Surprised they didn't lock those behind MR70 instead

        • Anonymous

Pretty sure the first couple of Surspikes are fixed same as the first two reactors of Raging Brachy. After that you have to cut the tail.

here's a random question for ya, what's your worse experience with gold Rathian? I just wanna know. Like if you have time please reply and tell me your story I'm really interested with others sharing their experience in the comment. ok I'll go first, I was trying to capture a temperd level 3 gold rathian solo (I found the quest online but in the middle of the fight I disconnected due to connection error so half I did the fight alone, note that) I was doing well so far, even managed to do 2 part breaks with my light break press. until I did not notice she was about to back flip so I got hit directly and lost about 1/2 of my health. And to make matters worse i was on a fire patch! Luckily my Pikachu (yes I called my Palico Pikachu okay) distracted the gold Rathian and I was under the crystal spikes so it got me out of a stun (btw forgot to tell you i was stunned and poisoned and on fire, sorry). Unlucky of me that Pikachu's distraction was not enough and she hit me with big boom. but I did succeed to capture the Rathian with only 1 faint left. Okay enough about my experience how's yours?

Fought and killed Gold Rathian at level 6 volcanic region. My wildspire area was only level 1 so safe to say wildspire 6 is not required.

World is my first MH game, so the first time I fought Gold Rathian it actually scared the crap out of me just how fast she was. Only then did I understand the whole “flippin’ till I die” thing she has going.

How can I get Tempered Gold Scale? I just can't have it in GL... but it's supposed to be dropped as a GL material; my GL Volcanic is lvl 7 btw.

Events will drop everything you need. I made the entire set off 6 event runs(2 solo, 4 group). Honestly, the solo runs seem alot easier. Focus the head but aim for attacks on the tail. Dual blades makes him a cake walk

When you finally fight this thing in the investigation and start farming it, be warned this *****ing thing has a pretty hefty hp pool. All it literally does is throw nukes at you and spins more than a beyblade. So expect 20 minutes of Golden Rathian spinning. Once you get used to it spinning one million times the only hard part is trying not to fall asleep.

Getting an investigation where you actually hunt this ******* thing is downright impossible. Seriously, why the **** does a creature from the wildspire waste region gives only investigations from the CORAL *****ING HIGHLANDS!? I got over twenty investigations after six hours of grinding and literally every single one was about a different monster from the highlands! The RNG for this thing is bull*****

Hello all, I've got some questions mostly concerning the Gold Rathian Surspike. Because it will pop up if anyone actually responds to this, yes I'm aware I need to get good. My skill level is likely a factor in what's been going on and I am genuinely trying to improve, that's not what this is about: Gold Rathian Surspike, how the heck do you get this thing? Since reaching an appropriate rank to face it I have fought this thing, through a combination of Guiding Lands hunts and the Event quest, 47 times. 47 times and not a single drop. Is the drop rate just THAT low? Is cutting the tail a must? (something else i've also never managed to do). I've tried loading my build for max elemental damage, max partbreaker, I've tried using traps to slow it down, I've tried putting it to sleep, I've tried wounding it; nothing seems to work. I'm not a world-class expert hunter, but I'm competent so my main question is: what am I doing wrong? Could this be a bug of some kind?(i'm sure it's not, I'm just honestly running out of possibilities) To sum up, please help. If anyone has any tips or feedback on a way to at least increase my chances of getting this thing I'd appreciate it. Nonsense over, flame away now I guess...

If you want a world of butthurt, level up both coral highlands and wildspire waste. What'll happen is this: you'll eventually see both gold rathian and silver rathalos on the map together. And if you try fighting one, the other will continuously be called back, so you'll be almost perpetually fighting both simultaneously until one dies. I would know, I did this. I fought silver rathalos in the coral section and every time I fended off rathian, rathalos called her back after only about 2-3 minutes. Dung pods wouldn't work. On top of this, deviljo was also present, but thankfully dung pods work on him. At some point things got weird, the "gold rathian is soon leaving the locale" notification popped, and when rathian effed off back to wildspire, she stayed there, but then the rathalos left coral and flew over to her zone. So I went over there and dealt with them there for a bit. Eventually fended off rathalos causing him to fly back to coral, so I decided to flashbug rathian in the face so I could make a clean getaway back to coral (rathalos was my initial target of interest). I got 3/4 of the way back to coral when @$$hole decided to leave and fly back to wildspire again. So I hauled all the way back there, dealt with both AGAIN, only this time when he left I immediately flashed rathian and ran far enough away I could use tailraider transport and when I got back to the rathian, the prick was just about to fly off but luckily I saw it coming so I flashed him down and started fighting him again. And killed him. It was sh!tty and I recommend noone do this unless they want a real annoying challenge. Dealing with both these !@#$ers simultaneously was horrible. The only thing I can think of that would be worse is fighting both toaster and moonbutt together.

Any tips on the best place to get investigations on this thing? I.e I’ve gotten silver rath by doing recess safaris

Figured out the hard way the damn thing breaks out of both types of traps almost instantly, even when it's not enraged

You can get the gold rathian surspike by breaking the back. Don't know how rare it is since i only killed it 3 times but nontheless it's good for those that use blunt weapons.

The best option to farm GR is to capture it and then farm it in Optional Arena Quest that will show up. Screw Investigation in GL. To capture him you have to at least one time investigate him or have a luck and see ??? in the list of monsters when you press DEPART to GL or find someone who will do Investigation Quest...but still the most important is to capture him.

So, I have to ask: Are there just NO Gold Rath investigations? I have hunted 7 of them, capturing 3, but I just cant get it to give me an Investigation. Hell, I got a Scarred Yian Garuga from her, for gods sake, and my Forest level is 2!

You can just go on expeditions to random areas and keep checking if it has spawned. Just make sure the Wildspire is at lvl 6.
