Uragaan is a Large Monster in Monster Hunter World (MHW). ウラガンキン (爆鎚竜) in Japanese. Uragaan loves munching on rocks, using its strong jaws to turn solid stone into dust. To take Uragaan down, aim for its head and underbelly, using water, ice, or dragon attacks. Break its back, cut off its tail, and you'll have a better shot at success. Just watch out for its explosive drops that can create shockwaves, and be mindful of its vulnerability to poison and stun effects

Large Brute Wyverns that feed on ore, using their mighty jaws to crush solid rock to powder. They've been known to confront Lavasioths over territory disputes

  • After roaring, Uragaan can immediately slam it's jaw down, highly advised against frontal assault.
  • A crushing slam from the Uragaan's jaw can send shockwaves across the ground, detonating any explosive rocks in the area.
    • Jaw slams can stagger you if you're near it but didn't get hit by it, leaving you vulnerable to other attacks. Tremor Resistance can mitigate or negate this.
  • In addition, when Uragaan is toppled, its body can be mined for ore. This can be done any time it is toppled.

    • Uragaan seems to roll longer with a tighter turn radius.

Uragaan Combat Guide

To take down the Uragaan in Monster Hunter World, start by gearing up with armor that has high thunder resistance to withstand its electric attacks. Equip a water or ice element weapon for better effectiveness against its tough hide. Ensure you have a well-stocked inventory with Mega Potions, Max Potions, Ancient Potions, Antidotes, Mega Barrel Bombs, and a Shock Trap. These items will help you stay healthy, counter status effects, and deal powerful blows. Use Mantles and Boosters strategically; the Health Booster keeps you healthy, and Temporal/Rocksteady Mantles enhance your mobility and defense.

Head to the Elder's Recess for the hunt. Approach cautiously, watching out for explosive rocks on Uragaan's back. Aim for its sides to trigger explosions, but be cautious of its body slams. Stay alert for Uragaan's earthquake move; keep a safe distance and roll away if caught in the tremors. Target Uragaan's tail, a vulnerable spot that weakens the monster when severed. Watch out for Uragaan's explosive bombs and roll to put out flames if caught. Drop Health Boosters strategically for continuous health advantage and lead Uragaan near its explosives for extra damage.

Take advantage of moments when Uragaan is down or distracted. Deploy Barrel Bombs or unleash powerful attacks for maximum damage. If Basil Geese shows up, let them clash with Uragaan for extra damage. Be ready for Uragaan's sleep gas attacks with Herbal Medicine or antidotes. When Uragaan limps, decide whether to capture using Shock Traps and Tranq Bombs or finish it off for a memorable victory.

Focus on Uragaan's weaknesses to Water, Ice, and Dragon damage, targeting its head and underbelly. Break and mine its back, and cut off the tail for additional rewards. Be aware of Master Rank changes, like Uragaan's increased health and ability to coat itself in flames while rolling. Adjust your strategy to emerge victorious over this mighty monster.

The HP pool on him literally should have been hotfixed, it genuinely makes him one of the worst monsters in the entire game to fight.

        Hello!

The article says: "To take down the Uragaan in Monster Hunter World, start by gearing up with armor that has high thunder resistance to withstand its electric attacks."

I don't believe this is correct, could someone check please?

        • Anonymous

I highly recommend using poison damage: even my crappy pukei pukei weapon mid way through MR can kill him in 20 minutes and I didn't play well.

          • Anonymous

The ugliest monster in the series. And also one of the most unfair. His rolling is pure random garbage, most of the time he will hit you 100% no matter what you do. Its drifts are the envy of Dominic Toretto, we don't even talk about the absurd damage. Not to mention that aesthetically he is a giant rock pe**s with a scrotum as chin. I don't know who is the imb**ile who conceived such an atrocity, but I hope he has now lost his job and is living under a bridge, living by fishing sewer rats.

              Oh one more thing!
It tends to get messier when he has a turf war against brachy try to stand far away from them until they ll do their thang for those coming fresh to iceborne Uragaan has nothing to do with his HR counterpart ive tryed the poison tactics his rolls become less dangerous and less repetetive but itll be harder to soften his parts guess there is a price for every advantage!
Just prepare yourself for a long fight againt this bomberchin !

              • Anonymous

yet again master rank ruins a perfectly good monster by adding one new move that it literally spams non-stop. I would be so happy with this monster if he didn't constantly do his flame roll, sometimes more than 6 times. It does monstrous damage and by the time you recover from being hit the first time you get hit by his next pass. His flameballs also do WAY more damage

Since when Uragaan is hostile at any range other than the very first instance we meet it? I have never been attacked by one in expeditions unless I start the fight with it.

                  • Anonymous

Might be just a coincindence, but "Uragaan" sounds close to Russian "Ураган" which means "hurricane".

                    • Anonymous

Why do they have to introduce this monster like we have to hunt it. I put it to its final phase and then it disappeared from the map. Cost me 10 potions and 6 mega potions.

                      • Anonymous

Yo for real, f**k this fight, he goes from doing these slow but powerful chin slams and then all the sudden he's rolling around the area and spewing out lava balls, and it only gets worse in MR. Thankfully the crystalburst help slightly to deal with his BS.

                        • Anonymous

if Tigrex can kill a radobaan easily than how about this guy? probably harder since has hard skin and bombs

                          • Anonymous

What ailment its "spray" is depends on whether or not it's enraged. If it's enraged, it will spray fire, but if not, it sprays sleep gas. Pretty easy to not get caught in either way, though.

                            • My previous comment on fighting this boi was back when I was a cheap fukk who didn't have iceborne, that info does NOT apply to MR I'm afraid, I'll update it when I hunt this lad a couple times.

                              • Tbh, he's not much harder than his bone zone cousin. his head slam attacks are annoying, but are manageable. His explosives, while damaging, are easy to avoid with decent awareness. Stay by his tail, cut it off and break the face.

Has anyone had any luck getting the Pallium from master rank? I see it's not listed and I've done 15+ runs. Wish I had one more celestial ticket...

                                  • Anonymous

I'm not 100% on this, but I think the uragaan's equilibrium can be thrown out of whack if it's poisoned. Sometimes it would do its roll attack but couldn't get all the way around.

                                    • Anonymous

When I got caught in its sleep gas, it gave me a weird ailment that caused a Deviljho that I was fleeing from chase me ALL around the F****ING map

This set lack a Lance, Gunlance and Sword & Shield matching weapons. Its truly a shame those weapons arent included in the game.

                                        • Anonymous

I say that knocking him down is a high priority. Because once you do you can mine ore off either his back or belly. Quite convenient and gives special items only he can drop.

                                          • Anonymous

When they say "head" they basically mean "eyes". His chin isn't weak obviously, nor are his "horns". That leaves pretty much just his eyes vulnerable.

                                            • Anonymous

Just curious, why does Uragaan have a gem? What makes him so special. If anything, Lavasioth is harder/more threatening, and 2 important monsters don't have a gem. Diablos, and kirin. Both the only apex predators/ elder dragons that don't have gems. So why exactly does Uragaan get one, when he's just a normal monster?

                                              • Anonymous

If you make him hit his chin on an explosive it becomes less hardened so you can hit it with normal attacks.

                                                • Anonymous

So I found out when you knock him down and he's flailing around, the backside becomes a mining node. You just get random ores from that zone, no monster material. Kinda neat.

                                                  • Anonymous

It gets hella scary when he starts rolling around at the speed of sound. I set up a trap when he starts doing that hoping he hits the trap. It works at stopping him

                                                    • Anonymous

You know Arena kinda hates you when they put this guy and a Radobaan in the same field and tell you to have fun.

                                                      • Anonymous

I don't think Uragaan is too bad in World, because in World they introduced the Radobaan, who more or less trains you for how to deal with the Uragaan, if you are really struggling with the Uragaan, go kill Radobaan a bunch of times, then come back and adapt what you learned there.

                                                        • Anonymous

My favorite part was when it rolled around for 20 minutes then stopped dead and instantly accelerated to the speed of light and turning me into paste with no telegraph or warning it was great

                                                          • Anonymous

The only thing I don't like about the fight is it's ridiculous hit boxs when guarding against it's rolls, still somehow damages ya from behind, such bull*****and it doesn't help whem it spams rolls when it's at it's nest like a dumbass. Just... why?!?!
