Very solid weapon for CC demanding fights, as well as the type of build that rewards shelling vs shelling blast. A very good alterative for shelling blasts or more mobile combos would be the Brimstren Drakeblood. Both weapons have purple sharpness (a must for gunlance users) and worthwhile shelling types. The sleep element is not really great, but it's not awful either.
