  • The expansion can be purchased as a Stand-Alone addition by those who own the game. Starting at USD 39.99
  • A bundled version of the base game and Expansion is also expected to be available. Starting at USD 59.99

Iceborne Expansion Features

The Iceborne expansion builds on every aspect of Monster Hunter: World, starting with an all-new story that picks up after the main game and whisks hunters away to a newly discovered chilly locale called Hoarfrost Reach. The snow-covered terrain offers an ecosystem that contrasts areas in the main game and progressively expands with the story. Iceborne is set to offer the largest region in the game so far, presenting hunters a wealth of new content with even more quests to face than in the original release.

Iceborne also introduces the new higher difficulty Master Rank, a brand-new quest tier that makes new and existing monsters more ferocious than ever. The extreme cold is also the setting for brand new frigid climate foes such as the horned brute wyvern Banbaro and the snow-buried Beotodus. These interweave with returning fan favorites such as the swift-attacking Nargacuga who adds some dangerous new tricks to his trademark move set as he joins the Monster Hunter: World lineup. Leading the pack in Iceborne is the mysterious new flagship monster Velkhana, an elder dragon with powerful ice attacks that is a pervasive threat in the new story.

To ready players to face the expansion’s fierce hunts, several new gameplay options have been added to broaden the player’s combat repertoire, creating opportunities for exciting new hunting strategies. The Slinger can now be used while the main weapon is drawn, regardless of weapon type. New features have also been added for the Slinger such as the Clutch Claw used to grapple onto monsters with more direct control and the Flinch Shot which unloads Slinger ammo to stun monsters. Each of the 14 weapon types will also get new combos and new elements, offering additional depth to master in combat.

New Quests

The Iceborne Expansion continues the Storyline from Monster Hunter World, advancing the Fifth's Fleet efforts to understand the new World. A new Quest Rank, alongside a variety of new Assignment and Optional Quests are expected. Supplementary Event Quests, Optional Quests and Special Assignments are also expected.

New Locales and Monsters

Iceborne Expansion for MHW will bring with it new Locations, with new ecosystems and Endemic Life as well as new Monsters (both large and small!). Players can expect this to result in an array of new Weapons, Armor and Specialized Tools.

New Locale: Hoarfrost Reach

New Monsters: Cortos, Banbaro, Beotodus, Nargacuga, Velkhana

It is yet unconfirmed if new Items, Decorations or Skills will be introduced with the expansion.

New Moves

The Slinger can now be used while the main weapon is drawn, regardless of weapon type. New features have also been added for the Slinger such as the Clutch Claw used to grapple onto monsters with more direct control and the Flinch Shot which unloads Slinger ammo to stun monsters. Each of the 14 weapon types will also get new combos and new elements, offering additional depth to master in combat

Iceborn Expansion Pricing and Versions

The Monster Hunter: World base game is required and while Iceborne players will be able to enjoy some of the gameplay options such as the Slinger and weapon updates right away, they must have completed the main story through Hunter Rank 16 in order to access the new Iceborne story and quests. Several options are now available for pre-order for new or returning players on console either digitally or at participating retailers, with a special Yukumo Series layered armor set bonus exclusively for these early bird customers.

  • For existing owners, the Monster Hunter World: Iceborne expansion is available as digital DLC for MSRP $39.99 / €39.99.
  • A Digital Deluxe version including both the expansion and a Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Deluxe Kit DLC of cosmetic items is MSRP $49.99 / €49.99.
  • For newcomers, the Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Master Edition containing both the main game and the Iceborne expansion is available to preorder at retail and will be available for purchase digitally at launch for MSRP $59.99 / €59.99.
  • At North America retail only, the Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Master Edition Deluxe option that also includes the Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Deluxe Kit DLC comes in a Steelbook for MSRP $79.99.

40 dollars is nothing and in mhw how many monsters and events plus colab we got for free, if your new to mh master rank witch is g rank before is huge with a lot of monsters june they gonna release more stuff totaly worth it.

PSA: The monster list is NOT COMPLETE. These are just the confirmed monsters from a teaser. Capcom has said that Iceborne content will rival that of the base game, which means you're looking at 20 monsters at least with free DLC extra content.
Also, an EXPANSION is not a DLC. All Monster Hunter DLC was free for a year - festivals, monsters, more weapons and armor. There's plenty of content on original release. The expansion is, like any other game, a paid addition with a whole new zone, new mechanics, etc. This is a very fair business model and people shouldn't be upset for the sake of it.

This is absolutely absurd! Why is iceborne $40?!? You it was promised that all DLC would be free! and on top of that you only give us a small selection of cookie cutter monsters! Where's the Gammoth? What about the Zamtrios?? Big swing and a miss by Capcom with this one. Severely disappointed.

Can't wait, but $40 for five monsters (including Tigrex they teased at the end of the reveal), i'm not sure about that. But this reveal was just a massive tease. They will probably show more content between now and release date.

Got to be honest, i expected better from cap-com. The DLC looks fantastic, everything is beautiful and the excitement grew until i saw something that caught me off guard, they put a price on it. I bought this game for 2 reasons, 1) its my first monster hunter and likely not my last and 2) as per their promotional material stated, that all DLC and expansions would be free. and here we are facing 40 USD. It would be different if they hadn't used that as one of their selling points. This will either be accepted by the community as a shot in the leg or will not be tolerated and its boy-cotted. Only time will tell. Until then i'm just going to keep farming for Lunastra gems.

Tigres is most likely to be in the game because of the roar and because of narga, why nagra u may ask?because narga and tigrex have similar skeletal structure, if the devs didnt include narga, they do have to make tigrex's skeletal structure from scratch and I'm pretty sure devs are too lazy to do that

In their direct, at final moment when appears the expansion date, you can hear tigrex roar, so is "confirmed"?

I can see a lot of Nordic inspiration in these Monsters. Velkhana has a similar ring to it as Valhalla and Beotodus namesake is probably Beowulf, which I find funny and somewhat weird, since beowulf derives from beo (bee) and wulf (wolf) which was a coloqialism for bee-hunter and described a bear. Both namesakes might be not the case tho, so who knows.

With the Introduction of Nargacouga and its build I really hope that Tigrex will also make it into this Expansion. Since there was no Apex-Monster for the new Map announced and Tigrex is known to hunt in cold regions, chances are pretty good he'll make it. Or the Apex-Monster for the new Map could be Barioth and Tigrex could become a secondary Apex-Monster for the Desert. Well, let's wait and see.

Are they really putting a price tag on this? Like ice maps haven't ever been a part of the standard Monster Hunter experience? Or are they monetizing an end game system that actually rewards you for your effort rather than relying on RNG decoration drops?

Man, waiting is hard. But the wait should be worth it cause we get new monster, new armor, and more quests from the story mode being expanded. (UwU )b I think I can wait awhile for it to come out.

I wish this wasn't announced. I've been on edge ever since it was announced a few months ago and the wait is getting to me.
