Iceborne Expansion Features
The Iceborne expansion builds on every aspect of Monster Hunter: World, starting with an all-new story that picks up after the main game and whisks hunters away to a newly discovered chilly locale called Hoarfrost Reach. The snow-covered terrain offers an ecosystem that contrasts areas in the main game and progressively expands with the story. Iceborne is set to offer the largest region in the game so far, presenting hunters a wealth of new content with even more quests to face than in the original release.
Iceborne also introduces the new higher difficulty Master Rank, a brand-new quest tier that makes new and existing monsters more ferocious than ever. The extreme cold is also the setting for brand new frigid climate foes such as the horned brute wyvern Banbaro and the snow-buried Beotodus. These interweave with returning fan favorites such as the swift-attacking Nargacuga who adds some dangerous new tricks to his trademark move set as he joins the Monster Hunter: World lineup. Leading the pack in Iceborne is the mysterious new flagship monster Velkhana, an elder dragon with powerful ice attacks that is a pervasive threat in the new story.
To ready players to face the expansion’s fierce hunts, several new gameplay options have been added to broaden the player’s combat repertoire, creating opportunities for exciting new hunting strategies. The Slinger can now be used while the main weapon is drawn, regardless of weapon type. New features have also been added for the Slinger such as the Clutch Claw used to grapple onto monsters with more direct control and the Flinch Shot which unloads Slinger ammo to stun monsters. Each of the 14 weapon types will also get new combos and new elements, offering additional depth to master in combat.
You can also add Pendants to your weapons now.
New Quests
The Iceborne Expansion continues the Storyline from Monster Hunter World, advancing the Fifth's Fleet efforts to understand the new World. A new Quest Rank, alongside a variety of new Assignment and Optional Quests were added. Supplementary Event Quests, Optional Quests, and Special Assignments were also added.
New Locales and Monsters
The Iceborne Expansion brought with it new Locations, with new ecosystems and Endemic Life as well as new Monsters, both large and small. Players can expect this to result in an array of new Weapons, Armor and Specialized Tools.
- New Locale: Hoarfrost Reach, Guiding Lands
- New Home Base: Seliana
- New Monsters: Cortos, Popo, Anteka, Acidic Glavenus, Barioth, Banbaro, Beotodus, Blackveil Vaal Hazak, Brachydios, Brute Tigrex, Coral Pukei-Pukei, Ebony Odogaron, Fulgur Anjanath, Furious Rajang, Gold Rathian, Namielle, Nargacuga, Nightshade Paolumu, Raging Brachydios, Rajang, Ruiner Nergigante, Safi'jiiva, Savage Deviljho, Scarred Yian Garuga, Seething Bazelgeuse, Shara Ishvalda, Shrieking Legiana, Silver Rathlos, Stygian Zinogre, Tigrex, Velkhana, Viper Tobi-Kadachi, Yian Garuga, Zinogre, Rajang, Stygian Zinogre, Safi'jiiva, Furious Rajang, Raging Brachydios, Alatreon, Frostfang Barioth, Fatalis.
It is yet unconfirmed if new Items, Decorations or Skills will be introduced with the expansion, but several skills are changing!
New Moves
The Slinger can now be used while the main weapon is drawn, regardless of weapon type. New features have also been added for the Slinger such as the Clutch Claw used to grapple onto monsters with more direct control and the Flinch Shot which unloads Slinger ammo to stun monsters. Each of the 14 weapon types will also get new combos and new elements, offering additional depth to master in combat. (Please see the weapon pages for more information.)
Iceborne Expansion Pricing and Versions
The Monster Hunter: World base game is required and while Iceborne players will be able to enjoy some of the gameplay options such as the Slinger and weapon updates right away, they must have completed the main story through Hunter Rank 16 in order to access the new Iceborne story and quests. Several options are now available for pre-order for new or returning players on console either digitally or at participating retailers, with a special Yukumo Series layered armor set bonus exclusively for these early bird customers.
- For existing owners, the Monster Hunter World: Iceborne expansion is available as digital DLC for MSRP $39.99 / €39.99.
- A Digital Deluxe version including both the expansion and a Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Deluxe Kit DLC of cosmetic items is MSRP $49.99 / €49.99.

Oh boy. These comments are full of people who think that big endgame monsters and freaking god-dragons... shouldn't be hard?
Seems about right.

so many players crying about the game being too easy. nothings stopping you from challenging yourself
Can someone please move Ruiner Nergigante to before Shara Ishvalda?

I came here to get away from all the BS on the other pages, now I wish I hadn't.

It's Interesting to see how many people really dislike this game, some people say its too hard solo and because they dont want to play in multiplayer, meanwhile i only have it on PC and i think it's very fun either way, however my personal problems with the game are the standard issues with the game that everyone has mentioned before me. 1) the copy paste weapons, thats just sad, especially when the older models of said weapons are in older games, and dont tell me it was cost effective, mhw is capcoms best seller they could've hired more than 3 people or actually got someone to say no that looks bad. 2) my personal hatred, the copy paste turf wars, each monster has their own unique ability, prime example rathalos, whenever he picks any monster up he NEVER poisons them... with his talons... that have poison in them. This just breaks my immersion is all. 3) handler... shes still useless. 4) The cutscenes, im playing with my friends and we still have to go into quest and leave quest only for us all to be able to watch the end mission cutscene... wtf? 5) Connectivity issues, im not sure if it's mainly me and my friends (despite them having far superior internet than me) but i disconnect quite frequently randomly, some days im great, others not so much. Now i'm not a major veteran as i have never played before tri, but i have beaten all of the games since, and yes i do find this game to be easy, but i somehow find it far more enjoyable than 4u and generations... cant say the same for 3u i really REALLY love the mechanical monsters. I.E break parts, they cant do as much anymore and the subspecies and the major addition of brute and leviathans mmm. But the final problem that people spout about this game is that its time consuming... well of course it is, have you played the previous games? If you run out of time in Iceborne YOU are doing something wrong, not the game, be more tactical. If you didnt have time to play a monster hunter game before you had to do something... the 50 minute timer shouldve given you a clue on your first mission, in other words suck it up.

Do not buy this expansion unless you like multiplayer. Monsters have too much hp and you will run out of time for many of them, despite 0 carts and high tier weapon. Super boring but frustrating due to the mandatory multiplayer.

Fellow Nincels, I come to you in the wake of recent events to issue a call to reason. Let no Nintenbros deny the perils of our time. While we battle one another, divided by the petty strife of our common history, the tide of a greater conflict is turning against us, threatening to destroy all that we have accomplished. It is time for us as Nincels and as individuals to set aside our long-standing feuds and unite. The tides of an unwinnable war are upon us, and we must seek refuge upon higher ground, lest we be swept away by the flood. Our old Monster Hunter is no more! Whatever semblance of unity and protection it once provided is a phantom, a memory. With our enemies left unchecked, who will you turn to for protection? The devastation wrought by our enemies is self-evident. We have seen our homes and communities destroyed by the calculated blows of the PCucks. We have seen first hand our friends and loved ones consumed by the nightmarish PS4. Unprecedented and unimaginable though they may be, these are the signs of our time. The time has come, my fellow Hunters, to rally to a new banner. In unity lies strength; already many of the dissident factions have joined us. Out of the many we shall forge an indivisible whole capitulating only to a single throne, and from that throne Listfriend shall watch over you. From this day forward let no Nincels make war upon any other Nincels, let no Nincels agency conspire against this new beginning, and let no Nincels consort with console powers, and to all the enemies of Nincels: seek not to bar our way, for we shall win through, no matter the cost! BING BING WAHOO!

I only play true ethical Monster Hunter. I don't use armour I craft because it is unethical not to play naked both in game or in real life. When my hunter dies, I delete every item in my pouch and my inventory because it's not true ethical Monster Hunter otherwise. I meld every attack jewel I get because it is unrealistic to ever get it in true ethical Monster Hunter. I skip Safi'jiiva because Awakened weapons are unethical powerhouses. Every time a Nergigante dive bomb miss me, I immediately make sure to stand still and let him cart me to increase the challenge. I've played solo since I got my demo of Freedom Unite on the PSP in May 21, 2009 because player interaction gave too much advantage. I've sent at least 84 emails to Capcom support over the years asking for unlimited ignore player space feature so I can make sure that no one talks to me when I'm in the Guild Hall. I read and listen to every NPC, notes, books to fully immerse myself in the true ethical Monster Hunter experience. Every time I go to /v/ and read the word "meta", "melding", "speedrun", "clear speed", "Drachen", so on and so on, I make sure to thrust my giant vibrating dildo one to three times to punish myself accordingly for tainting my TEMH experience. I've stolen at least a dozen credit cards from my parents to pay for the 3,250 figures that I have to show my support for Capcom and the true hardcore game that they have developed. It deeply saddens me that Mazereon left, he was the only one that spoke only truth. Why do you self-proclaimed TE hardcores even try to pretend that you're truly TE hardcore? You make me *****ing sick.

This game need a hardcore mode. If you die once in the fight you won't respawn and lost all your character progression. If not? Then this game is too easy 4/10

So after playing 4U I realized something, the Caravan have to make a decision: either kill all the innocent monsters before they turn into evil undead and start killing innocent monsters, and spreading the Frenzy Virus...OR...uhm.......well there wasn't any other option so.......the Caravan did nothing wrong

Completely overpriced crap. super tedious playing solo. Wanna waste 50 min and time out (but not die) because monster have 1M hp? Be warned.

I bought the disc and it was labeled Monster Hunter World :Iceborne. Yet none of these 'updated' features are present. Was it a redeemable code or is it like, an update?

Beaten Iceborne with just low rank armor and equipment. Didn't even upgrade any weapons and armor. Monsters are too predictable and bad AI. Feels like I'm playing DMC on easy mode. Sad to see the franchise moving towards this direction. Very disappointed.

From my experience with both interactive entertainment programs, I - the person who is speaking to you-the reader right now, have the ability to acknowledged with utter certainty in this exact moment that the game was made by Hidetaka Miyazaki who is a Japanese, and named “Black Spirits” is, in fact, more difficult, punishing and better than a game made by Ryozo Tsujimoto who is also a Japanese, named “Beast Chaser: Sphere ”. Those who disapprove or disagree with the message above can use their orifice and create a vacuum where my reproductive male organ is.

I am sort of in between on whether or not I like mhwi. On one hand I’m really upset on how they nerfed the flagship monsters. But on the other hand they did go from Ps2>3ds>Xbox one and Ps4 I think(Sorry if I got that wrong). That may have been the reason but on the other hand they made mhw before mhwi so they might have been able to learn from past mistakes. Despite this however I did still enjoy iceborn I would be lying if I said I hate everything about it. However I did think they made some questionable choices for returning monsters. The 2 I’m talking about is Brute Tigrex and Yian Garuga. Yian Garuga was understandable because they needed a bird wyvern but Brute tigrex I didn’t understand for some odd reason I don’t know why. N the other hand though they did bring back some pretty decent monsters (even though they were nerfed) like Brachydios,Zinogre,Tigrex and Savage deviljho. As you can see I’m not sure whether I hate or like iceborn. But we’ll see if in the upcoming updates they bring back and NOT nerf the what is it 4-5 monsters. But so far I’m in between.

List of problems with Monster Hunter World: >Healing while running, can dodge while healing, move while shooting... >Many other actions can also be dodged out, including sharpening... >Traps are placed almost instantly... >Weapons in general are more mobile and stronger, think adept + brave movesets from XX combined... >Except for the hunting horn, the weakest weapon in 4U and Generations, which got NERFED in World... >Even easier mounting thanks to much lower mounting threshold (sometimes activating the mount after 1 hit) and the aforementioned grappling hook, which takes you right back into the monster even if you fall off as a consequence of an attack... >Environment recovers health, puts the monster to sleep, paralyzes it, etc... >Can refill your items anytime, including potions... >Mantles give you OP abilities like no knockback, never be seen by the monster unless you attack or a full new health bar... >Monsters do not adapt to these changes, resulting in an incredibly easy game from start to finish... >Monsters have been given more generous weakspots, the main examples of this being Rathalos getting an 80 (!) MV on its head, and Diablos with a 40 MV in its head for blunt weapons. What this means is that monsters die much more quickly, as well as making them more exploitable... >31 Large monsters, most of them are tutorials, gimmicks or irrelevant... >It has the worst High rank final boss in the entire series... >Areas are huge and can be confusing, chasing down the monster takes a lot longer than in previous games, to the point where hunts can be 50% chasing and 50% hunting... >3 monsters per area means monsters encounters are much more common, making cheap hits from attacks you can’t see or getting combed by 2 monsters at the same time much more common. It wouldn’t be so much of a problem if dung was easy to farm, however they made it even more annoying and time consuming than before.....List of problems with MHWI: >Deluxe kit necessary for new armor set... >Pre order necessary to obtain Yukumo layered set... >This confirms that the the timed event quests are back... >Banbaro doesn’t do much outside of charging at the player and hitting its head on the ground. Continues the World tradition of annoying tremors that combo into hits... >Beotodus is Jyuratodus reskin with snow instead of mud and a few new moves. Easy, as expected... >The monsters above use the same animations in their turf war as the Barroth vs Jyuratodus one... >Nargacuga has been neutered, tail is now a weakspot, does little damage, cannot keep up with the powercreep of World, dead within 5 minutes. It felt like an early game monster similar to Tobi... >Tigrex now has awful hitboxes, likely intentional, as a way of adding artificial difficulty to an already easy fight. It has been slowed down tremendously and its roar only does damage when its enraged. In the demo, it was given inflated damage values, a sign of things to come... >Velkhana looks like yet another reuse of the Kushala skeleton... >The weapon models still look like bone and iron metals with monster parts glued to them. The iconic Nargacuga IG has been replaced by a generic iron model, all the weapons in the demo are bone and iron reskins... >It’s obvious that they kept the same*****ty movie soundtrack" mentality for the expansion. Narga's music is awful, as expected, and so is Tigrex’s... >New hunter actions makes the hunter even more overpowered. You can now activate a mount from a slinger shot, something every single weapon can do now, and there are new moves for every weapon. This follows the same design philosophy of world, making the hunter overpowered and the monsters a joke so braindead people can still beat the game... >Palico skill that revives you and gives a free cart, on top of felyne insurance... Reply me with more problems! Worldbabies need not apply.

I called myself getting back into MHW for Iceborne. That actually made me reconsider buying Iceborne right now. Been running around with nothing to do for a while now. Then, when I finally get something to do, Jho killed Kadachi and caused me to fail the mission. Made me angry enough to stop playing World and go back to 3U.

so is nobody gonna point out the fact that they're going to selling the game and it's expansion for 59.99, when literally right now the game itself on steam is just 59.99. Basically anyone who has bought the game before the dlc comes out will have to pay nearly 100 dollars, while new players will have to pay 59.99 for both? That sounds kinda like a money grab to me... not to mention we're waiting nearly 4 *****ing extra months for it on PC? man this is some ol' bull*****

This game is too easy. 0.1% hard content doesn't make it hard. It's either hard all the way through like Dark Souls or easy to faceroll like this game.

This series has gone downhill since Freedom Unite. Back then it was an achievement to finish the game but now everyone can faceroll it naked. They dumbed down the game way too much so they can make quick buck from casuals who won't even buy the next expansion. But who am I kidding here? Iceborne is gonna be a cakewalk to cater to the casuals again because Capcom love zoomer's money. RIP Monster Hunter! Now it will never be compared to Dark Souls in term of difficulty. We have a good run Soulsfag!

People claiming that the expansion has too many "reskins" are unbelievably brain dead. First off, the majority (not all) of subspecies/variants are vastly different from the original with different and new moves, elemental changes, and sometimes complete behavioral reworks. A lot of subspecies can feel like fighting a completely different monster. Secondly, Monster hunter games in the past have always focused more on subspecies in their expansions. For reference, Monster Hunter 4's ultimate expansion added 23 monsters. 8 off them were new/returning and 15 of them were subspecies/variants. So far for World we have 16 creatures: 8 new/returning and 8 subspecies/variants and they still aren't done adding monsters. Lastly, the expansion adds so much more than just monsters. It adds a whole other rank above high rank which will have new moves for over 90% of the old monsters. It'll have Tons of new weapons and armor, all of which will have different stats and a different look. It adds a completely new area, hub, and story. People also forget that monster hunter world has been showering us with free DLC content which they could have easily charged for. Sorry for ranting, I just want people to wake up and realize they're getting a lot more than just "reskins"

Capcom casualized World. I don't see why they won't casualize this game. Don't get your hope up for a good old Monster Hunter that is hard again. How can we brag about how hard Monster Hunter to the Dark Souls fan like the good old Freedom Unite day to see who have a bigger*****now?

I have been playing sense monster hunter on PlayStation. Yes one and I can say this a little better. All the monster that are now are easy to us old players and we see new players have not played the old gamers so the don’t know how to go faster, gear up and hunt. I think playing the old game a lone for a long time gave most of us an edge over the other games. So new player or player that rage quit the older games are finding this game easy. Even if I see new people and happy to help new players a bit but I miss the old play and love seeing old players. Old players know how to team heal and Support, trap, hunt and aiding in great hunts.! I played against the Molten Tigrex got a group of decent players thinking it would be nice to play with others I had been farming the monster for over a week and was try to speed up my hunt need a gem. I get where we have good odds with the beast but I spawn in the second I hit the door the are all dead game over. Yes the monster are Tone down a lot to what we old are use to. I had passed the mane story in the game in less than a week. But we have tempered monster so it a little better. I am praying that with this new up add on there will be more stronger monster. So in the end we are all monster hunter fan help the new out and learn from the old. hunt your heart out with both send your guild card to new and old players. Let make monster awesome and great for everyone :3 Let’s Hunt!

Are they planning on adding more kinsects because the kinsects? They are a part of insect glaive and they should add newer kinsects if they making newer insect glaives

This expansion will fail! Mark my word! First they will nerf every single returning monsters damage. Then, after the oldfriends cry out, they will introduce some-kind-of-buffed-up version of them to satisfy the fan which ironically are just normal version in the old game and not even GQ140. Second, the weapon design, they will make it just like the rest of World. Third, the content will not be enough to satisfy the true fan because like everyone said, it is too easy. Fourth, the game is too easy. Ryozo should be fired and let From buy the series, convince Miyazaki to actually make Monster Hunter hard again. PS: Make Monster Hunter harder Ryozo! Early game and endgame should kill players left and right. Ignore the newfriends, they won't stick around, they won't even want to pay for the expansion. But not us oldfriends. Just make the game like it used to be. Hard as Freedom Unite.
