Guard is a Skill in Monster Hunter World (MHW).
Guard Effect
Guard is increased in level based on the amount of Equipment with this skill the hunter is using. Each level works as follows:
Level 1: Slightly decreases the impact of attacks.
Level 2: Slightly decreases the impact of attacks and reduces stamina depletion by 15%.
Level 3: Greatly decreases the impact of attacks and reduces stamina depletion by 15%.
Level 4: Greatly decreases the impact of attacks and reduces stamina depletion by 30%.
Level 5: Massively decreases the impact of attacks and reduces stamina depletion by 50%.
*NOTE: Guard reduces chip damage from blocking as well as knockback and stamina depletion.

I hear that lvl 5 Guard makes Sw & Sh pretty strong, anyone know if this actually works?

Each monster attack has different Knockback_Value.
If attack bas blocked, monster's Knockback_Value is compared to current weapon's Knockback_Threshold, resulting in Light/Medium/Heavy hit.
Character then loses 10/25/40 stamina modified by Stamina_Depletion_Modifier.
Not enough stamina - no block, full hit, 100% damage. Otherwise there will be only 0%/10%/20% chip damage, affected by defense.
!st value is bonus to Knockback_Threshold.
2nd value is Stamina_Depletion_Modifier.
