Shrieking Legiana is a Large Monster in Monster Hunter World (MHW). 凍て刺すレイギエナ (Itesasu Reigiena) in Japanese. It was added with the Iceborne Expansion on Sept 6th 2019. It is a variant of Legiana that sports spiky ice jutting out of its wings as well as a bluer coloration. Its weak to Fire and Thunder.

A Legiana variant shrouded in white frost. It specializes in freezing prey with the powerful chill it emits,
then swooping down to strike at them from overhead."

Shrieking Legiana Combat Info

  • Kinsect Extracts:
    • Red: Head
    • Orange: Chest/Legs
    • White: Wings
    • Green: Tail
  • Shrieking Legiana tends to roar even more than regular Legiana, making Earplugs a good skill to counter it.
  • Shrieking Legiana will inflict Iceblight very easily, making you burn through your Nullberries fast. Blight Resistance might be useful.
  • As with most Master Rank Flying Wyverns, using Slinger Burst on Shrieking Legiana will work better than flashing it.
  • To negate its roar you need Earplugs at least level 4.

Combat Tactics for Legiana

  • If you choose to fight the monster in the northern region of the Hoarfrost Reach you can make use of the high count of traps to make the fight easier.
  • Dont forget to use and abuse the Clutch Claw when it takes flight. Pay attention to its enraged state since it will repel you easily when in that state.
  • If you choose to go for a ranged weapon build like the Light Bowgun or Heavy Bowgun you can take advantage of its dive attacks to bait them. You should be able to deal heavy damage in the windows of opportunity provided by the attacks.
  • A good way to gank up on it when playing multiplayer is to poison it. It will land to vomit and provide ample time to wail on it with the whole party.
  • Should another Legiana appear on the map, the Shrieking Legiana will emit a distinctive, lower-pitched roar, calling the other Legiana to converge on its location. Engaging them simultaneously is discouraged. The simplest remedy is to launch a Dung Pod at one of them. In the absence of dung pods, either retreat and conceal yourself until they disperse or entice them toward a Barioth. A turf war between one of the Legianas and Barioth will ensue, causing the wyvern to fly to a different zone afterward.

Shrieking Legiana MH World Combat Tactics

The Shrieking Legiana is the icy variant related to the familiar Legiana that you encountered earlier in the game. A lot of its moves are similar to the Legiana, with the addition of its icy attacks and the Shrieking Legiana also roars (or shrieks) more frequently than the regular one. One of the things to watch out for when fighting the Shrieking Legiana is the Iceblight Ailments, so you'll be needing to adjust your Equipment accordingly.

First off, you will need Ice Resistance on your Armor and Decorations. Some of the best armor that you can craft for this specific fight is the Legiana + Armor Set, or either the Legiana Beta or Legiana Alpha. For Decorations, use the Ice Resistance and Vitality Jewel to ensure that you will have a good chance at surviving the Shrieking Legiana's attacks. The ideal element to use against the Shrieking Legiana is Fire, followed by Thunder. It is also highly vulnerable to Poison attacks so you can also consider using poisonous weapons when you're playing with a party, or equip it on your Palico

The weak point of a Legiana is the Head. You can use any of the damage types: Cut, Blunt, or Ammo to break it. Ideally, you want to deal the most damage when the Shrieking Legiana is not in its enraged state. You will have more opportunities to attack, and the Ice Blight attacks aren't as frequent. When the Shrieking Legiana takes flight, fire a Flash Pod directly in front of it to bring it down. This is especially helpful if you are using melee weapons to take the fight back to the ground.

As the fight wears on, the Shrieking Legiana will begin to cover itself with ice. Its attacks will begin to have more Iceblight ailments, and it can create a puddle-sort of ice from the ground that you need to avoid. Of course, a Shrieking Legiana will likely attract a nearby monster with all the noise it creates. When that happens, a Legiana will appear. Fire a Dung Pod at them to make them leave the area so you can focus on your real target, or if unavailable, you may try to go back to camp and return to the fight once they separate.

for some reason barioth and normal legiana really wanted to join in on the fun when i fought this thing in the main story. it was a complete cluster****.

        • Anonymous

Dunno about you but it annoys me even more that there's always a normal Legiana there than the Shrieking one. It's simply because it just hugs your camera and you may even confuse it with the Shrieking one: I once tried to capture this guy and I instead trapped the normal one.

          • Anonymous

Never been a fan of regular Legiana so when i realized this thing have ice element on almost every move he automatically became one of my least favorite monsters in iceborne.

            • Anonymous

Don’t really understand the hate. It’s just a normal legiana with like 1-2 extra moves, as an sns player I had zero problems with both legianas, also I did normal one on Swaxe and greatsword and I doubt my experience would be any different if i fought her using them.

              • Anonymous

Lol i see everyone complaining but it is as simple as using a range weapond preferably bow since it has more mobilty than the other 2 its really not hard and if ur used to dodging not even that annoying

                • Anonymous

why would you design a fight to be done solely by spamming two items? it is beyond unreasonable to make us spam dung pods just to make a fight playable, let alone the nullberry spam. it's tendency to fly behind you or into the air means you fight your camera more than the monster itself

                  • Anonymous

i had no problems fighting with bow, but a lot of them with hammer. here's a few tips for bow users through my observation fighting it again (may apply to other weapons, but i have no clue how to approach it with them): aim for the chest, legs, and tail. those are the source for its ice attacks that cause iceblight. you'll want to break it to remove the white fur. it does regenerate so you'll want to keep an open eye when it does. at this point in the game you should be able to get temporal mantle or you might already have it, use it to make tenderizing less tedious. when shrieking legiana is downed, i learned is that instead of having to weapon attack 2 times for tenderizing (sometimes your positioning will be displaced or fly far away from the point you want to tenderize), you can do 3 clutch claw attacks and then a weapon attack to tenderize. its a bit stamina heavy so you want to use combos that are stamina positive after. or just take the time to recover and start comboing, your choice. hope this helps a few. happy hunting.

Here's a cool thing I noticed. In the mission where you fight two Legiana (one base and one shrieking), the shrieking Legiana will make a horrific noise in your ambiance, to show that it's coming when you attack its friend. It doesn't matter how far away it is.

Solo most IB contents with this annoying monster as few exceptions. More annoying than challenging. Also not a fun fight in my opinion.

imagine using the twin flame dual blades on this thing. it has poison and fire, i could destroy that thing in seconds

I’ve killed I’ve killed this monster’s ice swore variance and normal variant and not once have I gotten a mantle

                            • Anonymous

This is easily one of the LEAST fun monsters to fight, especially as long sword. No matter if it's in the air or on the ground, it manages to stay just outside of the range of all your attacks, and somehow always manages to scream at you just as you're about to roundslash. I understand some monsters should be more difficult matchups for some weapons, but one being a damn-near perfect counter while also being required for the story is a terrible design choice.

god i don't know if its intended but EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. i fight this thing a normal legiana appears and screws everything up

                                • First time i fought it without Blight res 3 god that was hell went trough a good 5 nullberries.

Though HP wise its not too tanky if you can constantly attack it (Insect Glaive :P) Kadachi Fury II pretty much melted it.

is it just me or does this beast from the depths of heck scream every time you try to pull off a final attack such as hammers big bang finisher long swords spirit roundslash great swords true charged slash charge blades elemental discharge anytime your about to do more than 100 damage it screams staggers you and hits you with iceblight.

i see he is pretty hard to beat and i know that this Smart Guy just gave me tips but... LIKE HOW DO YOU BEAT HIM?!?!?

if you are stuck on this monster i will give tips
so break his head if you want to weaken his roar if you have earplugs then go for the wings and tail that will slow him down if you break all the parts ( not including the head ) it will give you time to set a trap where he sleeps and when he is in the trap you can go for the head by the time he gets out of the trap his head will be broken he will be knocked over and whenever you knock him over go for the belly if he takes to much damage to his belly his ice attacks will weaken ( if you are a gs user like me then you can block his roar if you have a level 10 or higher gs so go for the wings and tail first and if you are a anything else user that cant block then go for the head first ) - smart guy

I got really lucky on this fight. I only encountered one legiana and dung podded it away. Then, it left the locale and it didn't bother me again. After that, the fight was smooth sailing, first try.

Best way to explain this fight.

Loud Annoying E-Girl calling her Simp to white knight for her constantly every time you so much as look at her.

Not hard, but very cheap, like most of the new monsters. Also there's a basic Legiana that always seems to get in the way...

There is special place in hell for someone who make this, this***** is the definition of annoying, not hard just pure annoying

Whoever designed the moveset of this abomination definitely has a special place in hell. Finished mine on 18mins solo but jesus christ that fight is so painful I'd never do that crap again.

Note to Anyone Fighting This for It's Armor: Bring Dung Pods cause if There's a Legiana Around It'll Back It Up the Entire Time and It is Awful to Deal with.

                                                      • Anonymous

(This is just a quick speculation and review upon what we know about this monster, so if you like this stuff then that's cool). Well so far... we know jack squat about this, subspecies? I suppose it is the best thing to call it for now, as for now then let's just review what we know, which is not much. The Shrieking Legiana seems to be a stronger version of the original Legiana that has been buffed by Velkhana in some way, now again we know just about nothing on this monster, so here are some of my theories on it. As we all know there will be a new armor set and upgraded weapons that will require his materials, now so far we only know of one new weapon in which that would be the Sword and Shield weapon, the Legia Rimespire as if you look closely at the Glavenus Trailer when the hunter is fighting the new Ebony Odogaron she seemed to be using some sort of version of the Legia Rimespire, however I am not positive on this so I may be mistaken. As for the power of this monster... man I have no idea as the normal Legiana seems to be on that tier of monsters like Rathalos, Diablos, and yes even Odogaron, however with the new buff it has received, my guess would be on the lines on Deviljho maybe, but I have no clue. Until more information is out I shall end this here, if there is anything I missed then just say something on this comment. Other then that I hope y'all are as hyped for Iceborne as I am and until further notice I'll see y'all later. (btw I also did a thing on Fulgur Anjanath and next I will do Ebony Odogaron so look out for that... just thought I'd mention that...)
