Teostra Details & Locations

Teostra Combat Info

  • Heat Guard can be extremely useful against Teostra, since it nullifies the damage from it's fire aura, and from the puddles of fire it drops on the floor (but does not protect from fireblight status effect mhwFireblight).
  • Hunters should aim for the head, its weakest spot. Other weakspots are the wings and tail (which is severable)
  • Since this is an agile monster, the belly area is the easiest to position oneself in.
  • Weakness sign: limping, Returns back to volcano area when near death (Elder's Recess), the deepest part of the cavern (Wildspire Waste), or the plateau (Wildspre Biome of The Guiding Lands).
  • The black scale dust Teostra scatters will spread over a wide area until it finally explodes. Keep an eye on that, as well as the flames it occasionally shields itself in, and aim to stagger it with weapons possessing Elderseal capabilities
  • At some points in the fight, Teostra will become covered in flames around its body. After some time he will take to the skies and release an explosion. The explosion covers a great distance so run away once he begins to fly up or utilize a flash pod to knock him to the ground. You can also utilize crystalburst to interrupt his supernova.
  • In instances where the Teostra and Lunastra are both spawned, hunters should try to keep them apart.  If they are both in the same area, they will not only team up, but also gain unique/stronger attacks.

MHW Teostra Combat Tips

Teostra, an elder dragon enveloped in flames, wields the destructive power of detonating scales with a gnash of its formidable fangs. Displaying leonine traits and a vibrant fiery hue, Teostra features a majestic mane, imposing fangs, and backward-curving horns. Its wings and tail are adorned with fur, presenting a distinct appearance. Serving as the male counterpart to Lunastra, Teostra's prowess extends beyond physical strength, with mastery over intense flames.

Teostra's flame control allows it to unleash potent streams of fire, turning foes to ash, setting ablaze its surroundings, and emanating a scorching aura that harms those in proximity. Complementing its fiery arsenal, Teostra produces explosive powder from its scales. This powder, spread by the dragon's teeth, results in a Supernova.

Consider these additional tips to enhance your strategy in this encounter:

  • Immunizer usage accelerates the healing process during Teostra's red aura, effectively countering the gradual health reduction.
  • Both Teostra and Lunastra have a chance to drop a shiny when roaring.
  • Teostra employs a highly flammable powder, dispersing it with its wings. By gnashing its teeth, a spark is generated, triggering an explosive reaction. The color of the spark signifies the explosion's range – red for close-range and yellow for a more extended blast.
  • Earplugs are essential to block Teostra's powerful roar.
  • Alternatively, the speed of Teostra's wing beats indicates the explosion range: a rapid beat results in a close-range explosion, while a slow beat leads to a long-range blast.

Loved fighting him with LS in HR, but now I feel like they just ruined him. Not nearly as fun and will sometimes spam the same attacks. Still does his crappy nova, but faster and basically out of any move, and since every other hit stuns you, you can see why this isn't very good.

Is there any way to counter his 0-damage-body if I don't have any kind of elderseal? That mechanic makes the fight 20x longer just cause I can't damage him..

          • Anonymous

I love this guy and it makes me so sad when I have to fight him especially since he is docile until attacked :(

            • Anonymous

As a result of fighting the Cache teo so many times I can now roll through the nova perfectly without evade window.

              • Anonymous

I fought it for my first time and the only thing that really bothers me is this weird forward dash which has literaly zero windup and travels what feels like 20 meter per frame. I had this situation where it changed the area, so i chased after it and reengaged with a shot from behind and from far away. It immediatly turned around and did this attack, all in less than half a second and knocked my ass on the ground. Then it comboed it into some other random attack and took over half my hp before i even got back on my legs. I take the blame for all other things that happend to me during the fight, but this was bullshit.

during AT teostra quest i found a AT kushala daora during when i was running tried to lure it to teostra to make them do turf wars threw a rock at it and i got insta killed not doing that ever again.

I have just fought teostra today and it made me realize something that some of what this says is true but also not at the same time and what I mean is Teostra for me is literally nergigante on steroids but they replaced at least two of his attack for teostra they are the flame breath and the supernova for the super nova I recommend doing what this page said but for the flame breath I recommend at any point going in from behind it might not sound possible but trust me it is. And that is all I had to say

I don't understand why some people say Teostra is difficult. Like heck, I beat him on my first attempt without fainting, seriously even Kirin is much more trouble than it xD

Can't wait for Arch Tempered MR Teostra, it's kaiser gamma was so good to the point i still sometimes use the hat.

Beat him in 20 min 1 cart with defender gunlance, I recommend 3 urgaan pieces to block his super nova, also watch out when he scratches you it inflicts blastblight

Love how Capcom made an elder dragon out of a blasted manticore and give it a fancy name as if it wasn't just inspired by an actual mythical creature.

I was wondering if his aoe is spherical. like can you dodge it by going lower in the desert dunes for exemple or going higher in the elder recess by goin up a crystal shard? also can terrain block it? me and friend were arguing about it and cant find answers xD.

Is it normal that hitting anywhere beside his head with ice bullets does 0 dmg? I noticed other arch tempered also only takes dmg at weak point, is this because of defense scaling or elemental bullets have some special mechanics?

Lol......................................he can put you in the long stun animation just by walking into you aka flinching. Here I thought I've seen it all in terms of Capcoms silly choices with their monsters.

Lesson learned 1/5 of 4 player random coop will succeed. Solo clear took 35 min but success. On clear, 4 player takes 15 min but on fail, 3 cart in 7-12 min.

Please don't hate me for doing this, but I used a mod that shows monster HP and Attack Names and Their body part status, rage, poison, exhaustion etc. While fighting AT teostra I noticed that around the time he was about to die, about three sword hits left, he did a move called teostra barrier and when I was about to kill him, his HP stayed at 1, no matter how much damage I did, his HP stays at one. He has this skill similar to guts that prevents his HP from going down to zero when he's about to die.

The easiest boss so far for me, not sure what problems do yo uguys have. Fireproof mantle and just stay right in front of his head, super easy. His nova deals super low damadge as wll, and its easy t dodge... i mean i guess can be hard with no food but lol....

Teostra and Vaal Hazak aren't that hard, afer taking like 10 L's from nergi i felt***** so went on to do some multiplayer and fought them like 3 times, but i had god mode teammates. Then i went on to solo first try because i'm Kirito-sama the almighty

                                          • Anonymous

honestly i hate this guy alot less than the wind elder dragon only because i deal good damage with holy sabers and alot of equipment have good fire res. his big charge into explosion is insane though its usually dodgeable sometimes you can get stunned for the entire charge duration if ur dumb like me and took no stun res

                                            • Anonymous

in the words of cotton of ragegamingvideos "looks like a demon griffin." i would prefer one than the arch tempered fight with teostra.

i'm not sure about the health cause if that's true it would take from 63 to 87 (over a hundred damage) hits to kill it.

                                                • Anonymous

I had someone join in about 30-45 seconds or so before the end and got the damage card. I did 8102 damage that fight, just as a note i think he has about 8k hp solo.

                                                  • Anonymous

For me, the toughest out of the 3 final elder dragons. The fireblight, the constant moving, and the explosions and other stuff in his nest just throw you away and make it 10 times more hard. Cool as hell though, probably the coolest monster in the game personally. I beat him doing the 1 hit and run tactic.

                                                    • Anonymous

Just beat him today, new to the hunter games. Took 2 tries, Nergal gouge, some random armor for buffs and fire resist, Wasn't ultra hard. Bring cool drinks or whatever they're called. Hit the stomach and legs, head when able. When he uses the supernova, run if possible, if not, superman dive like with Nerg. I failed the first time from being reckless and not having cool drinks. Other than that, it wasn't too hard. Some of its fire attack are devastating though, and from my experience he only used the nova 3 times after using the attack that deals fire damage from his feet. I really liked this fight. 10/10 would do again, even if a bit easy (at least to me)

                                                      • Anonymous

Which element would be more effective against him? Water or Ice? I main bow so, should I use the Legi or Hunter's Proud Bow?

Probably my favorite monster. Kind of disappointed with the armor appearance, but I farmed him for the full set anyway. He wasn't at all hostile on my attempts fighting him. He would just sit there majestically until someone hit him.

                                                                  • Anonymous

                                                                    • Anonymous

He mostly attacks from the front, with an occasional tail attack. The real thing you need to watch out for is certain fire attacks. Just one brought my health halfway down. As long as you keep flanking him and stay underneath him you should be okay, except for the AOE attacks, though I didn't have much trouble with those, diving away at a decent distance seemed to work in avoiding them, in my experience. Oh, and if you fight him during the main story quest, make sure to stock up on cool drinks! Farcaster is also useful if you need a quick retreat from the AOE damage. Just my take from it, hope it might help nyone struggling with this!

                                                                      • Anonymous

Only attacks from the front, he isn't even that much of a threat. Also, keep in mind that I was HR 14 when I did this. I beat him, and I hadn't even done his assigned quest yet. I did his Hellfire Stronghold quest. Really, why is he so easy, it's such a bummer! He's a lion that breathes fire and makes a giant explosion for pete's sake...

                                                                        • Not really dangerous, aside from his explosion. I use a Vaal Hazak armor alpha with three fire protection gem embedded in it’s slots and he doesn’t do a lot of damage most of the time.

                                                                          • Anonymous

Tho I had a group of people that i decided to help on a 15 min investigation and i had the rarity 8 vaal hazak hammer and i got the honors of detonating Testora's face. I showed him that his nuke like ability is nothing close to a hammer boi and a bunch of mega bombs.
