Barroth Combat Tips
- Equipment Equip a weapon with water elemental damage to exploit Barroth's vulnerability. If using a melee weapon, focus on attacking weak spots revealed as the armor breaks off. Alternatively, choose a ranged weapon like a bow or bowgun for safer attacks. Opt for a ranged weapon with armor-piercing or explosive rounds to deal with Barroth's tough exterior. Stock up on healing items to withstand Barroth's powerful blows. Ensure your weapons and armor are upgraded for maximum effectiveness in the fight against Barroth.
- Focus on Weak Spots: Concentrate your attacks on Barroth's weak spots as the armor breaks, maximizing damage output.
- Water Element Attacks: If using a water-element weapon, target Barroth's mud-covered areas to expedite armor removal.
- Use Special Abilities: Employ special weapon abilities, such as Wyvern Blast or other explosives, to exploit Barroth's weaknesses.
- Maintain Distance: Keep a safe distance, especially if using a ranged weapon, to avoid Barroth's devastating close-range attacks.
Watch out for mud projectiles that can reduce stamina and leave you vulnerable. - Patience is Key: Barroth's thick armor requires patience. Even after removing external mud, it may take time to deal significant damage.
- Dodge and Evade: Be agile and use evasive maneuvers to dodge Barroth's charging and stomping attacks. Use the terrain strategically to evade attacks effectively.
- Environmental Awareness: Take advantage of environmental traps in the area, if available, to create opportunities for additional damage or healing.
- Learn Barroth's Patterns: Familiarize yourself with Barroth's attack patterns and behaviors. Knowing when to attack, dodge, and retreat is crucial for success.
- It goes to sleep in muddy zones if hurt, regenerating health.
- Hunters may break the monster's back and head, as well as sever its tail for extra points and carves.
- The mud can be removed by shooting it with Puddle Pod ammo.
- Front claws and tail are the weakest points.
- Weakness sign: Limping
- Barroth drops mud puddles around itself, slowing hunters trapped within.

Notes, Trivia, & Media
- The Barroth eats ants and will knock down anthills to restore Stamina.
- When enough damage is dealt on the head, part of its scalp will break off, allowing hunters to carve it.
- Barroth is known as the "Landslide Wyvern."
- At 20, 30, 40 and 50 successful hunts, you will earn the Guild Card titles Barroth, Charge, Tyrant and Strong respectively.
- It uses its ridge like a snorkel when fully submerged in mud.
- Nicknamed the "Mud Brute"
- From Monster Hunter World: The Official Complete Works(lore/art book):
- The Barroth takes mud baths on a regular basis to protect its body from the dry and arid head of the region, as well as from parasites or blood-feasting insects. On especially sunny days, the Barroth is known to dive into a mid swamp and relax with only its nostrils exposed to the air.
- The nostrils located on top to its head are specially adapted to suit the Barroth when it's mud bathing in marshes. When angered by an intruders's attack, the Barroth is known to exhale sharply through these nostrils. In fact, the Barroth has evolved a number of nostrils so that it may exchange plenty of air while bathing.
- The territorial Barroth will intimidate invaders by using the muddy material covering its body. The highly vicious mud significantly slow down the movement of a target and may even bring it to a complete stop. However, the mud also acts as a defensive shield for the Barroth. If it loses too much of this muddy barrier, the barroth may even retreat to search for a mud bath.
- You might be surprised that a Barroth utilizes mud even for breeding habits. The female(or females) accepted into a male's marsh will build a mound of mud, in which they will lay then to twenty eggs. Both males and females share duties in brooding; males will keep a sharp eye out for intruders and protect the females and their eggs. As for the eggs, they're kept warm by geothermal heat and usually hatch in a few months. Until they reach an appropriate size, the hatchling will feed on small mud-dwelling insects. Hatchlings resemble their parents from birth, and their cranial region develops with maturity. The Barroth's powerful legs also develop during these early days, as young Barroth are forced to wade through viscous mud.
- Barroths in the Old World compete fiercely with each other during the dry season. There are more than a few Barroths who lose their lives in such battles due to cranial damage from powerful headbutts. While a male Barroth typically mates with only one female, reports suggest that if a swamp is considerably wide, a male may mate with several females. However, territorial battles between males have not been witnessed in the New World, so it's possible the local ecology has altered their behavior. Regardless, the head is still a crucial part of its anatomy, which is why it is covered in the hardest shell of the Barroth's body, a shell that the barroth meticulously grroms in the same way as its Old World relatives.

Can you fracture his skull with a great sword? I would like the bonus but I don't like sacrificing the ol' tail chop.

It took many moons but after I became a disciple of the way of the hammer I knocked his scalp clean off one of the most satisfying things I have done yet

Am I insane? Did I go 300+ hrs in this game and never realize you could cut off his tail or was that added in Iceborne?

You should put a recommendation on what weapon to use... I recommend the hammer, it kicks this things ass, especially on the arms.

it always seems to be the victim of so many cut scenes, like the jyoratodus and diablos, i just feel bad for it's species.

when a barroth sees me and a jyoratodus, it always favors me.

No matter how many times I kill Barroth it does NOT drop the Ridge, and I need this item for crafting. Is it my level or something? I didn't want to proceed with the game until I got a stronger weapon, for which I need Barroth parts and the RIDGE! Why am I not getting it. I've kill 7 barroth so far! Starting to feel kinda bad about it.
And for the record, they do NOT attack when you get close. At least they dont attack me. So long as I don't hit them, Barroth are peaceful creatures and I love them. I just need this freaking item.

I suggest the Magda Floga (Hammer). You miss out on the tail sever but make up for it by the head ridge bashed off. So in multiplayer bring a friend with sever.
Barroth hunts are much more satisfying in this game than in MH3U, where the difficulty was practically non-existant.

Weaknesses are the wrong way around according to the image. He is resistant to fire when covered in mud, and weak when he is not.
You realize a small one is 12 meters tall? Just think about how titanic they are
