Scarred Yian Garuga Combat Info

Kinsect Extracts:

  • Red: Head
  • Orange: Body/Tail
  • White: Wings/Legs
  • Like the regular Yian Garuga, its head is easily breakable, and it's quick to run out of stamina. It behaves differently when flying short distances though, so be careful
  • Its tail swipe inflicts poison and can one-shot Rare 10 armor wearers.
  • It becomes immune to Pitfall Traps and destroys them when enraged.
  • It's extremely aggressive and fast

Scarred Yian Garuga MH World Combat Tips

  • Equipment: Equip a Water or Blast Weapon since it is weakest to these two elements.
  • Position: Stay under him to avoid the path of its fire attacks, but be mindful of when it begins to land.
  • Guard: Use Guard to reduce knockback and stamina use during this fight
  • Health Boost: If you're having a hard time with this fight, a health boost will always help.
  • Clutch Claw Boost: Helps you wound Monsters more easily so you can tenderize each part much faster

The Scarred Yian Garuga is much like the regular Yian Garuga with almost identical stats and attacks. It is easily exhausted following a series of erratic thrashing and headbutting actions. Focusing your attacks on its head to try to get a scalp break will increase the chances of speed up the process of its exhaustion. The Scarred Yian Garuga will rely on some fire attacks that accompany its erratic flying pattern. Getting caught in these attacks is what causes the most fainting, especially if you decide to pursue it solo. You'll be spending a lot of the fight running out of the path of its attacks and trying to time your charge in. As much as possible try to get on top of it to get a few combo hits in while it is blasting its fire attack since its manoeuvres will be quick and relentless in a series of combos until you start your attacks. The upside is, since it is easily exhausted you just need a few good hits to knock it down, and then you can continue dealing the maximum amount of damage during this period. Continue focusing on breaking one part at a time and repeatedly exhaust him to eventually clear the fight.

So two reasons Scarred Yian Garuga exists: First, he's an old variant who was basically tempered Yian Garuga before tempered monsters were a thing, so good callback for veteran players. Second, tempered monsters only get damage buffs and nothing else so since Scarred Yian Garuga also gets new moves and a speed buff, he'd be an oddball if the tempered Yian Garuga wasn't a variant. Something else to note is he's not as dangerous as he was in the older games, he might be the only returning monster that got slowed down instead of sped up for MHW.

Barely any harder than the regular version it's a wonder why they didn't just give the few new moves this one has to the original

Just a tip for both garuga, 2-3 scatter nuts in the head in the row when they're midair = instant trip down. They will not get flinch by any slingers midair for a short while, just roughly it's next air combo time period, then you can proceed to trip it down again.

For me, this + wall banging making these 2 the easiest monster to hunt among after main story MR.

Is there a non-tempered version? In its only quest: tempered, lure it out in the Guiding Lands: tempered, unlock investigations: tempered.

Given how it bashes its head against the floor all the time like an idiot, it's easy to tell how it got that scar.

              • Anonymous

so its the EXACT SAME THING EXCEPT WITH SCARS!?!?!?!?!
latest story: a yain garuga is back from the dead and you killed him HE IS COMING FOR YOU!!!!!!

                • Anonymous

this guy is TOO EASY too many breakable parts and a complete copy of Yian Garuga they could have done better

                  • Anonymous

if you break all the parts of regular Yian garuga (except the tail) he would look exactly like his variant scarred yian garuga

                    • Anonymous

It is more aggressive. Flies and tail flips more. Fire machine gun attacks twice in a row. But if you have good enough armor and decorations (and skill and experience), it's alright. I was expecting 1-shots. But Maxed out Shara Ishvalda Armor set (no augments) and 21 fire resistance is good enough to tank and spank.

wait isn't he just an Yian garuga but been through alot? It's like he got beaten up by a savage deviljho and is training to defeat him. I mean that spit fire animation is cool looking! He didn't have that when he was still in one piece. I feel a bit sad because he looks scratched and lost one ear.

Are the crowns shared between regular and Scarred Yian Garuga? Like if you got the crown for one does it count for both?

                          • Anonymous

Best to leave rocksteady behind for this one. If you get caught in the napalm strike (or grapple to its head before hand) the lack of I-frames will pretty much ensure you get carted.

It is the only large monster that does not have its own materials and equipment, only sharing those from regular Yian Garuga. .... that's because it is a regular yian garuga. seriously, game even tells you that.

For anyone curious, I was able to receive a Scarred Yian Garuga Tempered Investigation before unlocking the monster in Guided Lands. My Ancient Forest Level is only 4.
