Videos, Notes & Trivia
- Can be lured with raw meat
- This monster will regurgitate food for its young, the Jagras
- Great Jagras is know as the "Thief Wyvern"
- At 20, 30, 40 and 50 successful hunts, you will earn the Guild Card titles "Great Jagras", "Gluttonous", "Gobbling" and "Shaggy" respectively
- From Monster Hunter World: The Official Complete Works(lore/art book):
- A Great Jagras's stomach secretes acid in large quantities, which is what allows him to consume his prey whole. Unfortunately, the acid is so powerful that it can break down the wall of his stomach. This is why a Great Jagras with an empty stomach is certain to be found skulking around the Ancient Forest searching for prey to gobble up.
- When mating season begins, Great Jagras battle each other in an attempt to court female Jagras partners. Only the winner of such courtship battles are able to mate. Since the males breed with every one of the females they successfully court, it is believed that a single male mates with roughly ten to twenty female Jagras partners. Each female Jagras will then choose a warm area of mulch to deposit three to four eggs. The females do not incubate their eggs, and it's not uncommon to find invasive monsters like Kulu-Ya-Ku stealing them.
- The crest that runs on from a Great Jagras's head to his back is a sign of adulthood and indicates the status of pack leader. Larger crests also impress female partners during mating seasons.
- The hairlike protrusions seen on his upper body as a crest and on his chin are actually small spiky growths that become tangled in each other and grow out like twisted ropes. The length of these structures may help one accurately estimate the age of a Great Jagras.
- By secreting large amounts of stomach acid, the Great Jagras aims to digest its prey as fast as possible. A unique trait of the Great Jagras is that he does not fully digest his prey to completing and often regurgitates the partially digested contents of his stomach. Rather than fully digesting a single source of prey, the most effective way for the Great Jagras to maximize nutritional absorption is to continually ingest and partially new prey. This trait is helpful to Jagras packs that are able to regularly feed on the remnants of the Great Jagras's partially digested meal, which incidentally factors in the expanding their habitat.
- A great Jagras's strongest weapon is indeed his fully expanded stomach. When his stomach is full, the Great Jagras frequently utilizes his impressive physique to overwhelm foes by crushing them. Although his agility decreases, his increased repertoire of attacks, along with his imposing size, means he's still a threat. However, once the entire contents of his stomach are fully digested, the Great Jagras becomes fatigued easily and will scurry off in search of another small monster to pray on. The Great Jagras's hunger is at the foundation of his behavior.
- When hungry, the Great Jagras is known to grow even more feral and will unabashedly attack monsters above his own rank or even prey small jagras. This is but one of the reasons he bears the nickname of "The Great Glutton".

The best part of Great Jagras are the lore implications of the Greatest Jagras event quest. It insinuates that given enough food and space it can grow seemingly indefinitely, especially considering the one in that quest got so large it was able to attack a Deviljho.

how is great jagras known as the thief wyvern that title should definitly go to KULA-YA-KU

As a dark souls veteran, this boss was way too easy. They need to be buffed some time, I think that the vomiting moves should give blast build up, their weaknesses should not be above two stars, and perhaps make it able to call other miniature monsters to help, requiring that you break its head three times to stop this.

Being classified as a Fanged Wyvern is a bit odd, I thought of it as a Leviathan 'cuz it bears a resemblance to Great Ludroth.

When I was in low rank, in the AF locale, great jagras would always come out of nowhere to fight an anjanath that interfered with all my hunts. One day in an expedition I was hunting an anjanath and got it low and the great jagras put down the killing blow and I was like O-O

Great Jagras is a great way to gather money. Grab some fire twin blades and the Bandit Mantle. Armor with +Fire Damage and +Attack can make the whole thing go faster. Then go for the 6 star free quest. At the start of the quest using meat is a good idea to keep you in Demon Mode longer. Footprints are pretty much right at the start of camp 1 so it shouldn't take much time to track him down. Once you see him hit the bandit mantle then go crazy. Note that the triangle circle demon mode is frame locked, and sometimes mid-combo he gets knocked down from weapon reach causing a small time loss. He'll probably try to run around the first few hits so trapping/flashing him can improve things a bit (or use that time to pickup the drops). The twin blade's fast attack speed means the bandit mantle procs a lot and you'll get trade in drops. Be sure to avoid trap finishing and actually finish him off completely. This gives a full minute to pick up bandit mantle drops which are more valuable. At the end of the quest sell everything except maybe armor upgrade mats and crystals. Selling these, the mantle drops, and the 5k from the quest can generally get you close to 50k. The average run time tends to run about 3 minutes. Best time I got was about 1:40.

first and easiest monster in the game, anything can beat it in a turf war
Just remember, a single great jagras has held up the entire expedition for 40 years folks. They didnt progress at all under you show up. They never made it to research anything else. They just showed up and got stuck. The fleet that flew off? They didnt get far ether and apparently just decided to settle down and smoke crack as well... That says a lot about them....
