Lunastra Details & Locations

Lunastra Combat Info

  • Deals mhw-fire-damageFire Damage
  • Is immune to mhw-fire-damageFire
  • Weak to mhw-ice-damageIce and mhw-dragon-damageDragon Damage
  • Moderately weak to stunStun and blast Blast Damage
  • The Head, Wings and Tail are the weak spots.
  • Using the Fireproof Mantle is recommended for this fight.
  • Combat tactics: Blue flames do not apply fire blight, but they do heat damage. Lunastra heats the air around her enough that cool drinks are required to prevent damage from the air. Her supernova attack has very large range and boasts twice. There is a special bond move where she combines her blast with Teostra to blast three times with a larger range and damage. Use Astera Jerkey after her first nova blast to heal red health on your bar and increase recovery. If Nergigante appears there is a rare turf war that does approximately 2000 damage to Lunastra. Kushala Daora can also have a turf war with her that does approximately 3000 damage to both participants. Use these to your advantage when fighting  her.
  • Lunastra's high body temperature and dust saps away health unless you use a Cool Drink. Its dust and blue flame explode when it comes into contact with Fire, so use a bomb or Crystalburst.

IMO Temp Luna is the biggest pain in the ass especially since her Nova causes a shitload of chip DMG since it also causes wind pressure u will most likely end up dead before u can eat the jerky or heal =/

Has anyone tried using anything with the Heat Guard skill on Lunastra because that skill is supposed to nulify heat damage or is it the same as using the Effluvial Expert skill on Vaal Hazak and doesn't actually work.

The Barnos Jacket, Lavasoith and the Clearmind Charm appear to be the only items in the game that give the Heat Guard skill.

Will the Kushala set bonus or max Windproof protect you from the gusts of wind she blows at you during her ultimate?

I haven't played MHW since Kulve Taroth first came out, and even then I was only playing sparingly, so this is a hell of a fight to come back to, lol. On one hand, I'm not looking forward to grinding for her materials, but it's also the right kind of difficulty that inspires me to git gud. Not looking forward to Tempered Lunastra whatsoever, though...

I just defeated it, I stayed on top level and kept hitting with long sword. Died twice and she flew away with about 45 seconds left......

So, did the lunestra gem rotate out of the melder? Because i was hoping to use a gold print for it. Once i had gotten my print, i hurriedly ran to the melder elder to be severely disappointed. SEVERELY.

Absolutely fucking not. Cool Drinks don’t do shit. Fire Resistance is basically wearing a hoodie in the Gobi Desert, her nova will one-shot you unless you have a lance shield. Her heat saps your health like Zohan sipping a Fizzy Bubbly, her tail swipes track and have a larger aOe than Telstra. She makes Nergigante, Zorah, Kulve, Ceadeus, Kirin, etc... look like malnourished Kelbi. She will be nerfed at some point. Without a doubt in my mind cause this is 100% home-grown BULLSHIT.

Anyone else noticing that it's hitboxes on it's tail attacks are bullshittingly huge? There was an entire health booster AoE between me and the model for her tail and I still got hit from it. WTF that's inexcusably badly done.

Horn is also given as investigation reward if you break head. I have gotten 3 from rewards but not carves.

Ah that f***ing b*tch... As a DB main, ok for the Kushala... ok for the Kirin... but the Lunastra... I'm becoming crazy at trying to kill her. Her paterns seems so random, and what's that movement's speed ?! Flash pods don't work, i'm always mistaken for her tail's hitbox. My true nitghtmare for this game.
The only way to fight her is to hide and hope she won't find you.

I don't know what the chances are but i may be the luckiest person who was blessed by the RNG gods, but I just picked a Lunastra gem off of the ground....Like one of those white stones that they leave on the ground... I got a gem from one.

Lunastra is immediately hostile the moment she sees you, so always plan to take her out first when both she and Teostra are on the map. Teostra is chill and just strolls as long as you don't hit him with anything. I've watched him fly off mid fight with Lunastra raging; so much for protecting his queen.

Being a lance main, that AOE is devastating for me. Neverless, completed the arena quest first time using a long sword, and doing the next quest using the lance. Barrel bombs and crystalbursts can remove the blue dust from the ground, especially useful in enclosed areas. Flash pods can make her angrier, allowing you to bait her supernova.

Though take note that the blue fire on the ground can slightly deal more damage than you can heal with a health booster iirc, and the supernova will obviously destroy you even with a health booster. Use flash pods

She's pretty do-able, but definitely giving me more trouble than any other monster. It just sucks that none of the utility items do much. Sure the flash pod can induce the nova, but I mostly use the flash pod to provide an opening to attack freely so this doesn't help me much. I do have advice for the people doing the hunts with her and Teostra. Try to go for Lunastra first. She's stronger, but Teostra is less aggressive. He rarely enters the same area you are in with Lunastra, and when he does most of my experience suggests that he will just pace around so long as you don't agro him.

My first few runs I went for Teostra first thinking I'd get the weaker one out of the way, but Lunastra is so damn aggressive I couldn't get any time to fight Teostra solo.

A tip about her version of the Supernova move.
Most people would suggest you don't bring any Flash Pods cause they make her angry. But that's the trick of it.
After she enters her third phase (I think it is her rage), if you can find an opening to move far away from her, or leave the area, shoot a flash pod and run away. This will provoke her and force her Supernova.
Just stay out of the area till its over.
This way you are in control of when she uses her most powerful move instead of her just doing it at some point.
I found that bringing 10 flashbugs is very useful to make flash pods on the fly and provoke her whenever she spends a few seconds in her third phase, then just run away and enjoy the break, heal, use whetstones or cool drinks etc, then go back to kicking her ass.
After that, she will enter her normal stage
