I kinda feel bad for him when I hear his sounds of pain when we're beating him.
This doesn't happnes with a lot of monsters, specially if they're annoying, but this thing most of the times he's just minding his business.
- Anonymous
Before Icebornes clawing mechanic was introduced it was just watching this train on legs trample over you until it got bored and moved to another area. If you think that was horror imagine farming its weapons and armor set. Welcome to vanilla MHW.

Im on the 1st legiana fight and this thing is the only monster that has ever killed me. It killed me on the pukie pukie quest 2 times and on the anjanath quest 3 times

I absolutely love this thing, it's a T-Rex but the bright pink head and it's punk looking fluffy vest give me a major vulture vibe. It's worth mentioning that some of its fire attacks come from that fancy nose, instead of the mouth like the wiki page says. It plays a sound effect that combines a flamethrower with someone blowing their nose.
Speaking about its nose, I haven't seen other monsters do this but Anjanath will sniff you out if you hide in the brush so watch out for that!

This thing scares the **** out of me. My early experiences in the game involve this thing showing up at the worst times, often right smack behind me.

I swear to god they’ve made this ****er hard since I played a year or so ago. I used to be able to kill him no problem and now he seems impossible. He leaves the locale every single time I come close to killing him and I don’t know how many times I’ve come close to yeeting my controller into the wall from rage.

Thought I might give some tips for fighting it (HR). The only thing really dangerous about him is his jumping and snot rocket attack. Always move if he rears back.

Nightmare trying to cut off that tail with a great sword. I usually give up and break the face.
- Anonymous
Why did the devs use that as sound effects for his fire breath??? I mean come one!!! My hands froze for a sec when I heard it....

This monster in low rank is the tutorial off and nergigante the high rank tutorial off in the game

After grinding and fighting with different equipment/gear I killed him without fainting using mudslide blade 1, and hunters gear fully upgraded. When he runs to the tree tops and gets attacked by the dragon just stand aside. If all goes right when he goes back to his nest you will beable to finish him there.

Can someone explain to me why I got one shot by him even tho I almost have the most defense that I can get rn? And why is he running away 7 times in a 18 min hunt, is that normal? I am speaking about the low rank version btw. I beat him 6 times and didn't get the drop for the chestpiece and just got one shot out of nowhere 2 times and failed the mission, I have no clue why that happend.

Me and my family call this monster barney and it is fun to take barney out.

I fight this monster all by myself 5 times. when the damn monster down i use Wyvernfire with the Gunlance+Shield. crazy fight. nevertheless, fun. I am a Shield person. A Spartan who lost his Shield will be punished.

Great sword is ideal for first attempts. Block and sprint-dodge. If you can time those head on face smacks, he’ll wind back and wimpier like a little biatch. Stay up close or put unsmashable obstacles between you. Also, he can jump and climb. Go for the tail sever once he starts limping - charge attack. Traps and bombs are your friends here, along with might pills/drinks. Get it!
- Anonymous
i have found fighting him annoying as every time i have him on the point of death the timer runs out, three attempts so far: 1st fainted twice time ran out 2nd&3rd no faints but timer ran out, at this point fighting hims not that hard but i'm unable to kill him within the allotted time, any advice thx
- Anonymous
For such a big fella, he sure can climb. I highly doubted he could the first time I tried to fight him, and I got so scared
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Dont be fooled by his looks, he's quite agile. He can quickly climb ledges, jump at you or body-ram even from significant distance. His most powerful attacks are mid to long rage, including deadly fire breath. Stay up close, circle around. Make sure he doesn't have you on a straight line. if you want to distance yourself - use the environment to create obstacles, mind that he can smash trough some of them though.

Alright kids, the training wheels are officially off. The Anjanath is fast, powerful, and when he's pissed off breathes a cannon of fire that can insta-kill even geared players. So, a couple of pointers: 1. Just about every attack he does will knock you off your feet or onto your butt, so don't try to combo through his counterattacks. Hit a few times, then dodge before he responds. 2. Come fully stocked with potions/mega potions, and don't feel ashamed about legging it for a breather if things go sideways. 3. The Anjanath is in its element in close quarters, where it can use its bulk to knock you silly by the simple act of moving. Make your big moves on him in open spaces. 4. Particular growls and roars he makes give you (brief) warning of what kind of attack he's about to try. If you see him winding up, get out of the way or die. 5. When he's on his last legs, he'll retreat to his lair which is an absolute nightmare for both capturing and fighting: he sleeps on vines (how?!?) so you can't lay a trap on it, and it bounces you around like a trampoline when he steps on them. For added fun, a pack of Jagras likes to hang out right next to his nest and may interfere: killing one to scatter them might be a prudent call. If you want to capture, place your trap as close as possible, wake him, then lure him onto it. If kill, then fight as much as possible on solid ground. Good luck! And don't get frustrated if you die, everyone has (EVERYONE, don't let the git guds fool you) to this beast.

Hes easy for me to dodge but right when im about to kill him, Bastard always leaves the map.

thanks for the info I will use it to help me take it on for the first mission against it but isn't there a better armor other than bone to take it on? Also thanks for telling me that the head is a good place to strike it makes since because its the hardest to hit also water element weapon's is easy to know that its the best element against it because it uses fire

Heh, I have 3 plates and I've only hunted one 3 times... I get a LOT of luck in this game. But as much as I despise this monster, I feel a bond with it whenever we fight, like as if it's some sort of epic showdown...
Anja (I call him Anji) is to me like Rudy is to Buck. Every time I see that colossal fossil we have a showdown. I've also spent a great time studying him. I know his paths and habits, when he will be down by the ocean to look at the view. I also know good tips on bringing him down and avoiding his hitbox. Be warned I use hammers so take this with a grain of salt in how to work it into your weapon. First things first his hit box is crazy but he has a window. While facing you his attacks come mostly from his right, your left, so if you see him rear his head to take a bite do not dodge to the left, dodge to the right/middle, kinda angle yourself, it takes practice but once you get the hang of it you'll leave him wondering where you went. Second, his fire, he coughs up fire and that can hurt you up close, keep your distance enough but also to try and get around him. His big flame burst can be tricked into shooting away so long as you dodge correctly. Watch his mouth and actions, is he coughing and inhaling? Is he leaning back? Get ready to dodge because yer about to become bbq. The best place to attack is behind him, under the tail. Hammer users use the simple 'golf swing' combo here or the spin attack but be careful because he gets cheeky in how he side bashes and takes you with him. If you get too far away he will pounce you so keep close. When he brings the fights to areas with climbing shrooms or hills that allow hammer users to do their areal slide attack he is in the danger zone. Use that attack to deliver lots of damage and get a ride on him. Don't be cocky, remember if you make too much distance he will come after you. Riding, ah hopping on his back is fun but you know what's even more fun? Getting on his face and moving last second so he slams his face against a hard surface. Also use riding to break his back. When he gets rated his throat glows, smack it while it does this to break it like a pinata and get some shiny goodies. He's easy to stun but be warned sometimes he gets back on his feet quickly. When blinded he will still attack and he normally does lashes and side bashes. If he scoops you up hit the dodge button like your life depended on it as well as holding the directional button to a side to get out of the way before you get snapped. He sleeps high up in the trees, however his bed is made of vines and do not allow traps. Place a trap South of his position when you enter through the hole in the tree, to the right a bit on the hard ground, toss tranqs at his face and wake him up and stand behind the trap, he will go into it even if you see him go down a level just stay put and give him a second to climb back up. Remember you can catch a monster by tranqing it at any time, you just have to have it land in a trap later. So when he is down from a stun I suggest tranqing him. One more thing, when he does a terf war, take that time to hide and heal/sharpen weapons cause he likes to take a bit to beat up and chase off anyone trying to interfer. His tail attack is annoying but avoidable if you keep close/dodge to the right if facing behind him. He's weak to water but tbh I just beat him up with either a bone hammer or hammer made out of other Anjanath's lol. Good luck and remember, stay close and don't get cocky.

What you should do is to make sure your always behind it. That fire breath of the Anjanath is very brutal and easily makes you faint. Be careful

Trying to beat the anjanath from The Proving (using the Mudslide blade III). Does anyone have any good tips on beating it without fainting? If anyone could help that would be great, thanks. Psn Op_Applejack026

idk if I'm just blind but I don't see a charge blade for the anja.

Says water is it's greatest weakness. I call bulls**t!! My flammenzahn does a better job of killing it.

I beat him using Jagra armor and a Barroth switchaxe. He had me down to my last life, but thankfully I was finally able to do it. Thanks also in part to Rathian coming in while he was on the ropes and picking his butt up and power slamming him into the ground for a nice 705 points of damage. After that I literally hit him one time and he was dead.

I'm farming this now and I'm using dual swords with water damage, best way to knock down Anjanath to stand under the neck and demon slash the mother out of it!

Anyone else notice that, despite the notebook entry not stating so, anjanath's legs are breakable? It mentions this little detail with its fulgur variant, but not the main species.
