A Big Catch in Monster Hunter World (MHW) mhw-iceborne-icon-16pxIceborne is an Observation Log. Observation Logs are given by the Lynian Researcher located in Seliana which requires a Hunter to capture different photos for him.

Plunderers are a particularly aggressive species. They specifically excel at capturing monsters in thier cunningly designed vine traps... Alas, my old bones keep me from venturing onto the battlefield, so all opportunity to witness their heroism is forever lost to me... Unless... Unless...!!!

Notes

  • When taking the picture, you need to make sure you have most of the monster in the frame in addition to the Grimalkynes.
  • While not explicitly stated, Grimalkynes of the Bugtrappers, Protectors, and Troupers do not count for this requirement, it must explicitly be one of the Plunderer's faction. Plunderer Grimalkynes can be however distinguished by grey striped fur with brown ears.

      "While not explicitly stated"

Its literally on top of the info in the book, it says Rotten Vale plunderers, and in the desc. it mentioned Plunderers

In order to tell which Ivy Trap faction you'll get, look on the map which Grymalkynes spawned outside of the lair. Traps are based on the Grymalkynes spawned on the map, if Boaboa spawns you'll get an Harpoon trap, Gajalaka you get a Shellshock trap, the same rule apply for Ivy traps.

When you get close to the horn-blower he will speak to you, looking at the subtitle is an easy way to know his faction.

          • Ugh... this one is atrocious. Firstly, it has to be in the Rotten Vale. Secondly it has to be the Plunderers. Most of the time the ones operating the traps will NOT be Plunderers. Check the horn-blower in advance to make sure he has grey fur with red markings. If he has pale brown fur, he is a Bugtrapper. If he has black fur with white markings, he is a Protector, and if he has dark blue fur with red markings, he is a Trouper. Bugtrappers, Protectors and Troupers are no good. Neither are Gajalakas, since they also show up sometimes. Anyway... the best spot is the one on the upper level where big targets like Radobaan and Tigrex come through and you can run up the wall to jump off with any weapon for easier mounts. The one near the Central Camp down below pretty much requires you mount an Odogaron since that is what you'll usually encounter going through there. The spot in the middle, near the Great Girros roaming area, is probably the most awkward to get a mount in. Still, I'd recommend using Insect Glaive for this since you have to get a mount to trigger the trap.
