A Portent of Disaster is an Optional Quest in Monster Hunter World (MHW). Optional quests are unlocked after completing specific points in the main story via Assignments.
Here at the Second Fleet, we've been working to develop new tools to help your hunts, but we need YOUR help gathering the materials. We're counting on you to take this quest!

- Conditions: HR 14 or higher, have lv6 research of 7 different monsters, given by the Armory worker.
- Failure Conditions: Time expires, Faint 3 times.
- Notable Reward: Apothecary Mantle

To be honest, the optional quests in this game are given very randomly. I personally got the quest without even having Nergigante on Research Level 4 (I had it at 3). So just make sure you have researched at least 10 monsters and just pray you get it from the Armory place.

I have 15 base game monsters at level 6 or higher, and have zorah, nerg, and xeno fully researched and still haven't got the quest. I have no missions from the armory. And I have completed every optional quest I have available. I only have 8 and 9* missions left to unlock. This being one of them. (Yes I've talked to the ecologist recently)

On acquiring the quest:
You need to have fully researched (level 6 research) 10 monster INCLUDING Nergigante, Zora and Xenojiva. For A Blaze in The sand make sure to have fully researched 15 monsters. Also, if you have other optional quests from the armory that you haven’t completed make sure complete them that is why its not popping.

This is probably exactly correct. I had 7 non-elder monsters at level 6, and went to go farm research levels for Nergigante, Zora and Xenojiva. The moment I got level 4 for the last elder (and talked to the research dude sitting on the books) the quest unlocked.

I'm guarantee that the correct way to unlock this mission is to hunt Legiana till lv6 research. Me and my friend have noticed this and pretty sure about it xD

Incorrect information for quest requirements. I've done A Blaze on the Sand without ever retrieving this quest; something is missing in the requirements.

I completed this quest and got the mantle however it’s not actually showing up at all on my optional quests

I have max research on everything but the Elders, G. Girros, and Lava...but no trigger... FeelsBadMan

Found out why the quests didnt show up. You have to hunt max research level 4 or 6 depending on the monster. Then you have to go to the old man at trade port, sitting on huge pile of books, to UPDATE your monster manual. Then talk to the lady in the workshop and she will give you the two quests.

I am HR 80 and I have 29 monsters at max research. Why has this quest not popped up for me?

This quest disappeared after I completed it, despite being listed as Repeatable. Is this a bug?

I just got the quest, I have 7 base monster 6+ (+4 if I count level ones from Iceborne), nergi & kushala are level 1, xeno & zorah are 4, I just reached rank 40 and 125 total research levels
