Dawn's Triumph is a Quest in Monster Hunter World (MHW).
The burning Alatreon has once again been spotted. To make matters worse, news has spread of cataclysmic natural disasters occurring in the Old World. The timing of these events is curious to say the least. They merit further investigation but Alatreon comes first.

Dawn's Triumph Notes
- This Special Assignment is the gate before Fatalis however Alatreon is heavily nerfed in this quest compared to the original Alatreon Assignment.
- Alatreon will do one guaranteed Escaton Judgement in this quest. Because of that, his hp locks at around 18% and will do Escaton Judgement earlier if brought to low hp fast. This can lead to easy fails in multiplayer when the team does good dmg but not enough elemental damage. This is why it is recommended to do the quest in solo and cart to Escaton Judgement if dealing elemental damage is troublesome, Alatreon has less health than a Master Rank Great Jagras in this quest.

The interesting thing is that the fight is just shorter. That makes it inherently easier because you don't have to rinse and repeat after the first Escaton Judgement, but it's important to realize that the first phase (basically 'till the first Escaton Judgement) in this quest is as hard as the first phase in the real quest. Same damage, same aggressiveness, same attack patterns.
So, if you're still 3x carting in the first phase on the original quest, you're not going to do better here.
I was able to do the DPS check for the first phase in the original, I carted once sometimes twice. I managed to stay alive for the second judgement very scarce times... but the thing is, I was able to stay alive carting only once most of the times I tried the original quest. When I tried this one, it was a day/night difference because I killed him shortly after his judgement (which carted me because dumb me could not find the Astera Jerkey)
So, if you're feeling the quest is impossible, don't worry. Focus on survival (I mean... it sounds harsh but it's a git-gud scenario) I still can't beat the original, but I guarantee that if you can learn to survive up to the second judgement in the original, you WILL complete this assignment without much trouble.

This quest is what cowardice looks like. The developers should've stuck with their guns and gated Fatalis behind the actual Alatreon assignment.

im so sad, i did the OTHER quest with a group thinking it was the one i needed to do to unlock fatalis and then i find out this one was it...

I got carried in the first assignment because I forgot that I was in a public session and someone joined halfway through the fight, so I overprepared myself again for the quest truly trying to solo it but damn I did not know that it was a nerfed version...

I am 100% sure the only reason this quest exists is to give people who struggled with regular Alatreon (like I did) a goddamned break. It felt so good to just whack him and kill him right after the first Escaton Judgement instead of going through literally 3 cycles and then die to the Ice Active phase because the **** am I gonna do with a Legiana weapon against this thing

"Nerfed" Alatreon?
In which department? It's high damage? Nope. Aggresiveness? Nah.

My guide is this: raw dog it with your max dmg weapon and just take the guaranteed cart; I got steamrolled when I doing it legit because I just didn’t want to build a ice dmg build as a hammer main so I caved in and beat it with any trouble with raw damage

I had trouble with this since I was habitually doing long animation combos and had to adjust my build a few times. He has very low hp, so all you need to do it solo and prevent yourself from being oneshot. Any crit skills would give you maximum of 30% extra damage and that extra dps isn't worth dying.
If you have problems with him, go Divine Blessing 3, Vitality 3, Defence 6, Steadfast 2, Elemental resist (L) + Felyne Safeguard food (custom food), Blight Resistance 3, Gobbler 2, Evade Window, Fortify, Vigorwasp, Any stamina boost etc.. Bring Flash pods and you're guaranteed to knock him down when he flies. You don't need all of them and Alatreon is pretty open to being combos whenever he misses his thunder attacks. Whenever healing run sideways from him and wait for him to miss a skill first.
In the end it is all about unlocking Fatalis without having to grind MR 69 to unlock better gear from guiding lands, you can always come back to this guy later.

I used full raging brachydios armor (maxed out upgrades, i did it without augmenting the armor) frostfang barioth weapon (I use CB, augmenting the elemental damage is recommended). Yes, this Alatreon is absolutely heavily nerfed. If you faint once before his Escaton Judgement, abandon the quest (face tank the Escaton Judgement otherwise). I used a high movement build to dodge his attacks.
Decorations:
- evade extender lvl 3
- ice resist lvl 2
- health boost lvl 3
Mantles: Rocksteady Mantle (for first wall bang) and Temporal Mantle.
And use a gourmet voucher and eat the veggie meal (elemental resist L).
Congrats! My build will definitely not work for the "real" Alatreon fight.

The best gear before Alatreon is not good enough for Alatreon. Capcom finally dark souls'd this game.

What does anyone recommend to beat this guy it feels impossible

Is there any reason to not do this quest with the weakened Alatreon over the original one?

Ok I got a little bit of a glitch I got dawns truimph before I even killed alatreon I just did the special assignment quest and I got it not sure if it’s intended or a glitch in the the new update but at least I can get fatalis early. Also I’m kinda sad cause my brain is just gonna make me do the dawns triumph without actually experiencing the true alatreon first :/

What’s funny is that you can kill it before even the judgment I did

Why would they nerf him so hard anyway? You can only do it once, and fatalis comes right afterward anyway. Fatalis is WAY harder than the un-nerfed alatreon.

For what it's worth, you do not have to beat the Alatreon assignment to unlock this quest. You only have to encounter him. Don't have to beat Safi, either.

This saddens me greatly. The once mighty Alatreon reduced to this. I’m so sorry big fella. I’m so sorry.

Supposedly this Alatreon has 30% of it's original HP. You still get carve rewards but it'd be best to remember that you don't need to heavily focus on DPS checking so long as you can deal 17.5k Damage to it. (17.5k is a fair guess to 30% of it's original HP.)

So, an easy boss becomes hard if you give it 5x health. Noted Crapcom, great design.
