I'd like to add that you don't need Kirin's Investigation to be at level 3. I actually got the quest while my Kirin Investigation was still at level 1, and it became level 2 after completing this quest.

My progress bar doesn't move when investigating Electrified Fur. Is there something I'm missing??

to anyone having trouble getting the quest to show up, you need to investigate kirin tracks in specifically the HR Coral Highlands. I went on an expedition to the HR vers. and I started finding kirin tracks with a "?" symbol.

So, as it reads here, there is no reward from Impatient Biologist except for the carving and zennies from the actual quest? Because I were kind of dumbfunded when I couldn't turn it in and thought it was a glitch perhaps.

H14 too. Just completed this quest.. was aiming for Kirin, joined a few guys with this quest open. Picked up a lot of trails and this quest unlocked.

my hunter rank is 14 or so, i just beat nergigante for the first time. I found a lot of electrified fur in coral highlands and continued identifying them, and this quest unlocked for me.

NB: I completed this quest a lot earlier and I might have also picked up other tracks when I first completed the quest, so it is entirely possible that you can unlock this quest as soon as HR 30? The quest is Highland Royalty.

I am HR49, yet to complete the tempered Kirin Quest, I was doing the Legiana Optional quest for 8★ and collected a Kirin footprint, I did the the same quest again (cos I forgot to capture Legiana) and found two patches of electrified fur. Lightning strikes twice then unlocked upon my return to Astera, the progress bar remained blank when I collected each of the three tracks.
The paragraph about availability is wrong. I have finished all research quest lines (Lynian, Piscine and Endemic Life), I'm HR 35, and the quest isn't unlocked for me. The consensus seems to be that it's unlocked by investigating Kirin tracks in HR quests/expeditions, that's it.
Research level does NOT have to be level 3. At any research level, you can go on a HR Coral expedition. Look for Old Electrified Fur. Sometimes the bar will not fill, that's okay, keep looking. After a few expeditions of doing this, the exclamation point will appear from the impatient biologist in Astera. He will then give you the quest.
