Thunderous Rumble in the Highlands is an Optional Quest in Monster Hunter World (MHW).
This quest seeks only those with an unquenchable flame in their chest. Make for the Coral Highlands and investigate the beast swathed in lightning. Beyond it lies true glory.
Objective
- Slay a Kirin (Tempered)

- Conditions: HR 49 or higher
- Failure Conditions: Time expires, Faint 3 times.
Thunderous Rumble in the Highlands Notes
- This quest will unlock the HR cap at HR 49 and will give the possibility for the player to fight threat level 3 monsters(in High Rank).
- If the player started Master Rank, the quest will be moved to the optional, shown as completed and there will no HR cap at HR 49.

The wiki page on this is incorrect. This isn't an optional quest, it's an assigned quest.

Gunlance with Uragaan Set Laughs at this fight. Long Shelling and Patience and you just won't faint.

Just get a lot of bombs (about 10, 6 is enough if you're careful). I did this with previous assignment with duo bazel, didn't sweat much on hitting too much. I always do this to the other elders too.

Just did it one time using bow with one faint because i underestimated its thunder while im on thunderproof mantle. Use bow for easy mode.

I just soloed him with a Rank 6 Greatsword, my tips are just be patient you can take him down if you just poke him over time.

Bullsh*t fight you can't even see the floor at some parts because of texture it's just some of the devs have serious problems how this could be arbitrary to unlock endgame if I knew I couldnt access end game because of bunch of bs mechanics I wouldn't buy this game

Beat him first try solo (1 feint) with DB. Bring vitality and thunder mantle and just dodge like crazy and only do dps when his armor skin is down. Took 30 mins.

XD I thought my buddy was joking this was the last mission. I beat him on my 1st go without even knowing it his was the last boss. I find him when looking for tracks of pink rathian tracks.

SHIIIITTTT! This was literally my first attempt on this: Me: Being fully aware how powerful Tempered Kirin will be, prepared with much thunder resistance I have on hand along with thunder res mantle and defense buff from canteen. PUG: One shotted left and right and mission failed less than 5 mins. WTF!

Using Hammer he isn't worth more than 10 minutes of your time. Lure him into spots with slope. Use the charged spinning attack as soon as he lands his first 2 AOE on himself. You'll mount it quite easily and get the chance to land multiple stunning head hits. Repeat and don't rush it. Don't forget to use thunderproof mantle and vitality mantle. If he waits for you on the platforms thing, just lure him out to slope again with slingshot. He'll go back to sleep afterwards, having taken some serious damage. Before you wake him up make sure your mantle cooldown is no longer an issue. Wake him up gently with barrels etc. should die in a few 2nd stage charged attack (uppercut thing). Good luck hunters

I went full Guerilla on it with my DBs.
Hit and run tactics, using the Demon modes to get the spinning blade attacks during Lightning Armor.

shatter cast with lots of sticky slicing sleep and cluster shots just shoot and keep moving was able to do it solo 20 mins. just make sure you have good thunder resistance as well as mushroomancer setup doesn't hurt

F$#* THIS DAMN QUEST. Been stuck on it for a week now, & I've been able to fight other tempered monsters/elder dragons via SOS easier than this bulls&$# unbalanced horse.
so i was gonna do the Behemoth and Kuva.... whats her name... gold girl XD, missions before iceborne, but atm of this post shes not available and instead its Safi, so okay ill take on behemoth and me and a pal were so close to beating him 3comets one faint (cause i was on his head right as he casted ecliptic, and there was a tornado behind me so death or do some dmg and death... yeah 2nd option sounded better XD) anyways unable to beat him... i went into iceborne with HR 48-49 and got the little notif saying oh hey this mission is automatically completed... i was slightly like yay... but also felt cheap so right as i got to HR50(after beating ice fish) i went right in and dam being hammer was fun... i did get stuck between a wall a few times but man.... this was fun... do not i was using Devil'joe hammer 2 so that probably helped big time XD
