Location | Caverns of El Dorado |
Type | Terrestrial |
Tsuchinoko is an Endemic Life creature in Monster Hunter World (MHW). These animals and insects are found out in the field, and can be captured by dedicated Hunters looking to research the New World.
Jeepers, talk about strange with a capital S. Its elastic body, and odd skin... I think I've heard fairy tales about this thing before...
Tsuchinoko Location
You can find Tsuchinoko in:
- Caverns of El Dorado, Sector 1
Tsuchinoko scuttles along the ground, similar to the Gold Helmcrab. However, it is smaller and moves faster, so it is easy to tell when you've found a Tsuchinoko. It has a notable chance to spawn near one of the cannons at Sector 1 and/or at the end of the long slide at the camp site where a Chillshroom and many Copper Calappa are located.
- Origin Isle, near base camp
The Tsuchinoko has a rare chance to also spawn on the exit path from base camp during the Faraway Lorelei quest.
Tsuchinoko Capturing Rewards
You can capture Tsuchinoko by using the infinite item "capture net" then aiming for the creature with the control's trigger and pressing Square on your controller when the outline of the frame turns orange.
- House placing: Carpet, Floor, Hearth, Garden
- Other rewards: 500 RP
Tsuchinoko Notes
- This creature was added with the Kulve Taroth update (Patch 3.0).
- It is based on the Japanese cryptid of the same name.
- This creature is not necessary to unlock the Wild, Wild, Wildlife Guild Card background.
- This creature gets the special border for rare animals in the Endemic Life portion of the Field Guide.
- Since this creature lives in the Caverns of El Dorado, which are only accessible during the Kulve Taroth event, it is only available for capture for a limited time.

Tsuchinoko in Origin Isle

The things I went through to get this thing.
I am unable to participate in event quests, so I was confined to searching for it in Origin Isle. It took 15 grueling minutes of Shara waiting patiently for me to enter the arena while I walked back and forth from the tent to the hitching post. Luckily I ate for Zoomaster, and it scurried out for me to catch just before I gave up.
The moral of the story?
Don't rely on Origin Isle for Tsuchinokos.

Microwave it for 30 seconds and then add some salt and pepper

I found mine while Kulve Taroth was opening the wall to Sector 4 of her battle. It appeared and ran off to the left side of that opened gate.

Tsuchinko can also appear during the assignment for fighting Shara Ishvalda though that might be obvious

they can also be found in the master rank event quest "The Naked Truth" by the hitching station. that's how I got mine. I think they can be found in a normal Shara Ishvalda quest there as well.

I found one in area 2 while kulve was running to area 3. In that horde of copper calapas.

I was able to find one near the cannons right at the start of the KT hunt. I didn't even know about it until I saw it and immediately caught it with my net. Sometimes, RNG is kind.

I saw some guides on YouTube, apparently you also get it to spawn from mining nodes -

Spent about 30 minutes running from inside the camp at origin isle to the hitchingpost with zoomaster on and no luck. Not sure if running to and from the tent works or if i will have luck just resetting the quest. very rare spawn indeed
