Don't just go around killing creatures expecting them to come down out of nowhere. Run around until you find a few birds flying overhead. Even then I found they wouldn't come down to eat, but I found it better to wait just a little distance away (aiming camera away from the birds may help), until I saw one land, then run in and grab it. Ghillie suit might help, though I didn't use it. Also I caught them in an investigation if it matters

Don't just kill creatures expecting them to come out of nowhere. You should see the birds flying overhead. My experience was they wouldn't come down to eat dead creatures, instead I waited a short distance away aiming the camera away regularly until I saw one land on a branch or rock, then ran in and grabbed it. Ghillie suit might help but I didn't use one. Investigation during daytime if it matters

This birds have a similar behavior as the revolture if you kill a small or large monster they will fly down to eat the body making it easier to catch
