Whetfish is an Endemic Life creature in Monster Hunter World (MHW). These animals and insects are found out in the field, and can be captured by dedicated Hunters looking to research the New World.
They like to swim around in relatively deep water. Try wiggling the lure if it doesn't bite right away!

You can find Whetfish in:
- Ancient Forest, sector 1, 4, 9, 11
- Wildspire Waste, sector 1, 6
- Coral Highlands, sector 11
- Rotten Vale, sector 9
- Elder's Recess, sector 8?
- Hoarfrost Reach, sector 8 (in one of the ponds facing each other)
Capturing Rewards
You can capture Whetfish by using the Fishing Rod.
- House placing: Pond, Aquarium
- Other rewards: 12 RP, Whetfish Fin (120 RP, Whetfish Fin+ if Great Size)
Notes
- Sizes: 81.07 - 110.46
- Large Gold Crown Conditions: Foul Weather (Rain, etc), Night Time - Clear Weather, Night Time
- Great Whetfish does not count as a Large Crown

Saw this in a video; worked for me. Wildspire Waste (was on master if that helps). Daytime. Sandstorm. Spawned at camp 6. Ate food for microbiologist and the one. Got it 3rd time fishing there.
